Woohoo - we've managed 5 hours of sleep in one go for two nights in a row. Lets hope this is a new habit, not a one off!

thats great! thats all my wee man has ever managed. and isnt it strange that the longer the stretch of sleep i get the more tired i am! i think i had more energy when he was up every two hours!! (not that i want to go back to that)

Well done, Izzy!! :j
I have been staying up with Jamie until his last feed at 12:30ish and then bed around 1am for the last week or so. Today he woke at 8:15am and the best so far has been 9:10am!. I'll gradually move his bedtime forward to more sensible time and hope he doesn't know the difference

Congratualtions Caz. Hope you settle on a name soon. All the options are lovely. Thanks for asking about slings. I'm going to get one for #2 so the info is useful for me too.
Carla - Imogen went into her cotbed at 15 months without any probs. We bought one of those bed rails from Mothercare to keep her in, even though they are pretty low. In hindsight we could have just let her fall out a few times and then she'd have learnt not to! We moved her into a 'big' bed just before her 2nd birthday as we will need the cot again in July and she was moving rooms anyway due to an extension we were having. Just seemed easier.
We do have a baby gate on her bedroom door though so she can't just appear at the side of the bed - she'd love that if she could! I agree that waiting could be a bit disruptive if she perceives the change as the baby's fault. Good luck, whatever you decide.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -

are you joking me!!! he's only little and he's sleeping 7/8 hours straight! no fair. Oz has only managed this on a very few occasions, at the minute he goes down at 6.30 -7pm and wakes around 10.30 and then again around 2.30am and gets up anywhere from 6am to 7.30am (if i'm very lucky!).

If it's any consolation, Tom still has this sleep pattern!0 -

We haven't got safety gates on the stairs due to the shape of the bannisters, but I may get one to go across her bedroom door if it proves to be a problem.0 -
Thanks - will look at them.
The problem is the Newell posts are fancy. Similar to this one:

so my husband said the normal brackets and fixings won't screw on as the post is round and not flat. Here I go again on my own....0
