    hi ladies...
first of all, thanks very much for all your replies about the potty-training business...now another query.
as you know, DD is almost 16 months old. this mornig, dh and i were woke up by a pitter patter of feet, our bedroom door opening and dd standing at door saying "Hiiyaaa!".
funny as it was, it is also quite scary = she somehow has climbed out of her cotbed, bypassed the stairs (with no safety gate) and made her way into our bedroom.
now my dilemma is....do i lower her cot to the next level, which is possible, or do i get her a childrens bed and keep her cotbed for the baby on the way!? (im 4months pregnant)
    please help.
How have you survived with her not being on the lowest mattress height for so long
It's personal choice really, I asked hubby the other day if we should get Chris a bed or get a new cotbed for baby and he chose new cotbed even though it will cost between £50 - 100 more  [STRIKE]sometimes [/STRIKE]I really don't understand men !!

oh the suggestions we get are dora, sasha(bratz?) and SAMIB has begged me to call her Lola as we have a Charlie! hopefully she will have a name soon! but i just need to make up my mind x
Lola Lola Lola Lola Lola :D

If u can have her on ur front facing you and she is upright when she's in ur carrier it should put her hips in a good position to keep them strong. I couldn't find a link to the info I read about this but it was one of the reasons I got a wrap sling as we have family history on both sides of dodgy joints mainly my sister being born with Hip Displaysia.

carla, you need to do a bit of forward thinking. Moving the cotbed mattress down may keep her in it a bit longer, but some are very determined and will find a way out no matter what! And if they can't, they may start banging and thumping around inside the cot. You know your baby best ...

If you're four months gone now, she will be 21 months when the new baby is born. You'd probably be moving her into a 'proper' bed around the age of 2 anyway, so would you wait until baby baby was 3 months old to move your big baby? You probably DON'T want to do it the minute baby baby is born, nor at the stage where baby baby immediately moves into 'her' bed.

You could think about doing this in two stages: moving the mattress down and leaving the side down so that she CAN get out safely, putting a stair gate either across her bedroom door or the top of the stairs or both; then moving her into a big bed once she's used to that. Or just go straight to the big bed. You can still get bed guards, can't you, so they can't fall out in the middle of the night?

I'm not sure any of mine ever climbed out of their cot, but it was clear they didn't want to be in it any more!

My middle one was only 10 months when he was climbing out of the cot, by pulling himself up the railings and then jumping off  He was walking by 9 months and has always been really strong. I put him in a normal single bed, and he managed just fine.

My eldest was about 21 months when he went into a bed. I knew I was expecting the second by then, so we made a big thing about doing his new big boy room, so I could hide the cot for a couple of months before the baby needed it, so he didn't think the baby was kicking him out of his cot.

Charlotte is 21 months now and quite happy in the cot. It's been on the lowest matress setting from since she started pulling herself up to standing, but she's never tried to get out. Even when she's awake, she just lays there singing which is sweet! Currently thinking about getting a bed shortly as we go on holiday in May just after her second birthday and she'll have a bed in the hotel room, as they only supply cots for under 2's. May get a cot if we ask on arrival, but it depends on if they have any left or not.

We haven't got safety gates on the stairs due to the shape of the bannisters, but I may get one to go across her bedroom door if it proves to be a problem.
Here I go again on my own....

I decided DS1 needed a big boy bed after being woken up by him in the room with me, a huge crash as he fell out the cot or him screaming when he got stuck hanging half over the cot rail.... :D
  • My middle one was in a bed early as, like becles little one, she was an early walker and climber and could easily escape the cot. The two boys showed no signs of trying to escape at all so were in a cot longer. I think both becles and savvy sue have given good advice so I won't just repeat it!

hello ladies thought i better come over and announce baby girl arrival!!
8lb 3oz on 18th FEB at 7pm. very quick labour and at home! still no name but that will come soon!
    Congratulations!!
I bought 2 slings, babasling which is a wrap and babybjorn which is a carrier. I much prefer the babybjorn as easier to take babs out and put him down when he has fallen asleep. I found babasling to be so awkward.

middle of nowhere or middle of everywhere depending on how you look at it! about 4 miles from Moy, 10 miles from dungannon, 10 miles from portadown/craigavon and 10 miles from Armagh! Just off the M1 near Ardress house if you know where that is. Thats about as best as I can describe it :D

I'm a little easier to pinpoint !!! I'm right in the middle of Coleraine, right beside Portrush and Portstewart !!!

But I work in Derry so I'm rarely to never your side of the country !!

There is very little baby club wise where I am either and as you say Ikea is too far away, 65 miles for me !!!
