  • I think I must have 'the look' as no one questions me as soon as I say 'no' to certain 'treats' :D. But, tbh, Poppy doesn't have chocolate at home but I do allow my Mum to give her a few choc buttons when she minds her for me :).

And she did get quite a few Easter Eggs but never had any of them ;).

Oh Nannad, that's awful! My mum is the same, she thinks that I should be weaning before long. She cant understand why I'd want to BF til 6months! Also, she says the house is much too cold for babs, (its 21 degrees).
I just nod and ignore her.
Sami- thanks i'll give those teats a go too.

You're not alone nadnad. We have similar conversations with hubby's grandparents and comparisons with their other grandchild. You just have to learn to smile sweetly and let it flow in one ear and right out the other :D

Grandparents insist on feeding us too. We'll get offered a coffee and have conversations like:

GP - are you hungry? I can make you something?
Us - no it's ok, it's mid morning and we'll get something at lunchtime
GP - are you sure? It's no trouble
Us - well maybe just a biscuit then
GP - I could do you a bacon sandwich?
Us - no thanks, just a biscuit will be fine
GP - or how about some soup? That won't take long to warm up
Us - no really, just a biscuit is enough
GP - I could do some sandwiches?
Us - no we'll have some at lunchtime

and so on through various food options. Then we eventually have one biscuit and get forced to eat more :D
Here I go again on my own....

Oh poor Nadnad, that would wind me up too! My MIL isn't quite as bad although she has her moments (like she's always trying to give DS2 sugar-free squash - I hate sugar-free squash full stop, let alone for a toddler!  )

If it makes you feel any better though, she might get the point with your next child (if... you know! :)). With DS1 I used to get "Oh you're still breastfeedling" and "Shoudn't he be on solids" - at, like, under 3 months! - but thankfully she's been a lot more restrained with DS2. ;)

That must be a grandparent thing - mine are the same, and I've learnt not to resist them anymore, and just be fed. It's great! :D

I think we've been extremely fortunate interms of relatives opinions in that either they agree or they don't voice their opinions when they disagree. When Alice was three months, my grandad told me that he and my grandma always thought you should breastfeed for as long as possible which I think is probably a fairly unusual opinion for their generation.

I don't want to be a scaremonger but I just read this article and thought I ought to post it in case anyone has the same pushchair:

Poor girl, but what's a 3 year old doing in a pushcahir anyway?? Don't pushchairs like that have weight restrictions, she looks like a "chubby" girl.

Ladies if you are ever feeling guilty about doing something that "they" say is wrong just read this and relax http://www.momlogic.com/2009/01/lazy_mom_confessions.php

Can I feel smug that the only one I do is throw away other people's stuff while I'm tidying? I do lots of other lazy mum stuff though ;)

Nadnad, I don't have a MIL but it's my Mam that does all that sort of stuff! She's terrible for trying to give Tom food that's bad for him and making out that I'm depriving him when I say no. Plus she really doesn't approve of breastfeeding, especially now Tom's one.

    just a MIL rant.
    MIL: whinge whinge whinge ;)
    OMG.
    nightmare
    but its amusing too.
sorry for the long post had to get that off my chest. lol

Edited to add: this isnt a one off - this is the same conversation EVERY time we see her which is every week or so!
aww bless you nadnad you have the patience of a saint for keeping your head!
I can't beleive she is disapproving of BFing - erm, hello that's what they are for! :D

Not a nice way of a lesson being learned but my mum insisted on giving chris choc buttons (and still does give him about double what I say is "enough") when he was smaller I told her to always snap them in half but she didn't listen and chris choked on one  thankfully I whipped him up and slapped it out - swiftly followed by his lunch down my back *nice* but it scared the life out of her (and me!) and the time spent scrubbing the tomato based stain from her cream carpet made her realise that she should just do as she's told!
