  • morning all... we're waiting for the midwife to come see us - Izzy is fast asleep and I could really do with joining her, but I know as soon as I lie down the doorbell will go! This is the 10 day appointment, so with any luck we will be signed off and handed over to the health visitor :)

I've not really looked into mother and baby grops as yet (will leave it a week or two - we've not even ventured out of the house on our own yet!) but I know there is a NCT coffee morning once a month, so I will try to get to the February one. The January one was Monday this week, and going along with a 5 day old baby would have been a bit above-and-beyond really. I've e-mailed them about joining the first-timers group too, but no response as yet. I'm sure HV will be able to tell me about other things we can try too. I'm a bit aprehensive about going along to things where I don't know anyone, but I will be taking Izzy, and so i will automatically know someone, even if she isn't very chatty just yet ;)

For those people who use a lot of wipes, my friend posted a recipe for homemade ones here. I priced them up and it works out about 0.7p/wipe which isn't worth the saving for the amount we use but if you use a lot it's probably worth it.

Sami Bee what is a web book?

    Susan - it's like a small laptop I think.

Thanks Sami & SB - I've just ordered the Phil & Ted's sport double in camo blue along with a storm cover. I went to Mothercare this am and it does fit in my boot. Have to take the wheels off, although I suspect I may be able to stand it on its side and not wrangle with dirty wheels! I even got 4% cashback :money: Am v excited now!!

Susan - its a mini laptop as Lu said :)

Lu - I got my quidco too  .. and a storm cover (bit silly that it's not included IMHO)
I considered the sun thing and car seat adapter (I really do love spending money:o) but decided that Chris would be best up front so he still gets all the attention from passers by and therefore the sun wouldn't really get to bubs in the back

Lucky you Keelykat, the only baby free days I have are when LO is at nursery and I'm at work or when my mum has had him as OH has never changed a nappy in 14½ months!!!

Quick question... how old would your LO be when you stopped giving him milk in a bottle? And now for the controversial one, how old would your LO be when you let them have some of your chinese takeaway? LO does eat anything and everything and he has curry etc there so just wondered

  • We went out in the pushchair with DH yesterday (we walked to Homebase to buy a padlock - how exciting!). But we've not been out just me and Izzy. DH is back to work Monday though, so some point in the week we will venture out for a walk round the block or something.

MW tured up about 2pm in the end - Izzy is now 9lb! She will have grown out of all her newborn clothes by Monday at this rate. She is now signed over to the HV instead, but I'm still under the MW for now, due to stitches still being a nuisance. Finally got to have a nap in the end anyhow.

I'm now the only one awake in my house - Izzy is asleep on the armchair and DH is asleep on the sofa - I will tiptoe round them before waking them both up and making them go to bed. Peace and quiet for a few mins!

Not controversial Maz. It's good for them to have experience of other tastes. Imogen had her favourite tea today - bean chilli (and it was too hot for me!) As long as LO eats a balanced diet then a sample of your takeaway won't do any harm IMHO.

I got Imogen off bottles by about 11 months. We started only giving milk in cups during the day so she only had a bottle before bed. Then we swapped the bottle for a large Tommee Tippee cup which we cut the flow valve out of (so they don't have to suck - it mimics the same action as the bottle otherwise). She wasn't really bothered TBH and (if memory serves me correctly - it was a long time ago) didn't make any kind of fuss. We just said "you're a big girl now and big girls don't have bottles," or something to that effect.

Nice one Keeley. My OH is hoping to drop his hours a bit and go to 4 days when baby #2 arrives, so he'll get a proper taste of it then! He has had Imogen, but only for the odd day. He is pretty good though, there's nothing he won't do for her. He just doesn't get how draining it is to run round after her for two days and then do it again at the weekend while he has some 'me' time. I don't get any bloomin' 'me' time!!

I generally do homemade stuff like that but we did have chicken curry ready meals the other day (we were meant to go to an Indian resaurant but OH was feeling ill) and let Alice have some. I personally would avoid chinese takeaway because of the potential for nuts (OH is allergic to peanuts) but I can't say that I would think it really bad if someone else gave it to their child occasionally as part of a balanced diet.

On the bottles, do you mean switching from bottles to cups or stopping milk altogether? Alice switched at about ten or eleven months I think (after about three months of trying on and off) but she was breastfed for all the other feeds so different to if you're trying to switch all the feeds from bottles.
