RMac, i bought what to expect in the first year. I found it quite good but i also use babycentre.co.uk a lot too. Good luck with the birth!! xx

I'm looking forward to going to mum and toddler group after LO had his jabs. I'm such a big kid cant wait to do all that singing and claping! I know what you mean though Keely, its quite daunting going to the first meeting.
Hope Elliot had an ok day today.

I feel so much better after my whinging episode the other day. I've decided not to stress about him coming into my bed as there is really no other way at the moment with his reflux as it is. In fact, I'm gonna enjoy it as I know it wont last long (hopefully!) and probably the minute he'll be in his own cot I'll miss it.
    xx

Uh oh, now we have a problem. That bloomin Kiddicare deal, I just don't think I can resist. (* Whispers * Even though the blue is a bit bright and I've been banned from having the pink one  )

Problem is, we also need a new hoover and some fitted wardrobe doors. If I buy all of that in one go it'll be more than £1,000  We pay off the credit card every month, so that would be pretty tight. But we can manage it, just...

Keeley - you just need to go to a few more groups a few more times. Everyone's nervous at first and you at least have a shared interest - babies!

I now have a group of about 12 mummies and most of us are on our 2nd babies. The youngest of the big babies (if that makes sense) and just about to go 2. There were six mummies and 8 kids - not including me and Imogen - today. It was total chaos, but we all had a good time. The kids cleared about 2lb of grapes plus a good proportion of the 'mummy' biscuits :rotfl: :rotfl: but there really wasn't much more mess than Imogen makes on a busy day. And OH cleared all the toys up when he got home :T :T

Gonna sleep on it about the Phil & Teds then probably buy it in the morning!

RMac - Welcome to the other side - nearly! I have the Miriam Stoppard and What to expect. I also borrowed the Baby Whisperer and Contented Little Baby book from the library. I had a tendancy to be a bit neurotic about routines (and control!) so OH and MW were not impressed about that, but they banned me from buying them, not reading them :rotfl: Of course, I'm a truly laid back, experienced mother nowadays :rotfl: :rotfl:

I basically read them for ideas and then took the bits I liked. I found Gina Ford pretty extreme, but she had a few things I took note of. I also found they were useful for deciding what you DON'T want to do with your baby. Having ideas to reject is better than a blank sheet of paper.

Good luck, hope to see you here with Lemon Bump soon.

This is the email they sent me (not 100% that the link will work tho) there is no mention of a date anywhere on it tho
the blue isn't quite as bright as it looks on the site - have you seen it in the flesh? its obv more striking than a black pram but not too garish

Baby books: I relied on the freebies, but I bought the Miriam Stoppard Baby and Child Medical Handbook, and found it VERY useful in diagnosing ailments. There's bound to be a new edition, probably in colour, but it used to give an indication of when you needed to panic, and when not. Mostly not.

The problem with all the other baby books is that your baby won't have read them.

Definitely invest in Toddler Taming by Christopher Green. Do that now and read it before bump arrives, you may not have time when you actually have a toddler. :rotfl:

Think I'll go to Mothercare this am and check out that I can def. get it in my boot, plus see the colour in the flesh!

Must also try to find that Toddler Taming book, thanks Savvy Sue (and what were you doing up at 1am?!)

  • I had Toddler Taming when DD was younger (Didn't need it for DS1 but definitely did for DD!) and thought it was great - lots of sensible advice. I lent it to my sister for her children but think she ever read it as her toddlers were never tamed (and still aren't, aged 10 and 6). Think I should read it again for Tom though. Might look for it at the library.

Had to share this as I thought it was funny.

I was bathing Charlotte last night and the shower head and hose was hanging in the bath (just had the shower replaced, but didn't bother putting the riser rod up as someone is coming in to tile the walls at some point).

She kept picking the shower head up and licking it. I said "urrgh don't do that, it's dirty", so she washed the shower head with her flannel, and then started licking it again :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

    :rotfl: @ Charlotte & Beccles!

I saw the toddler taming book in asda awhile back - it might be in again for the baby event that starts this week on 27th ;)
Normally i would smugly proclaim I don't need it because Chris is an angel but after this morning I'm not so sure! after helping him with his brekkie I promptly fell asleep on the chair, I woke up about 30mins later and turned around to see Chris sat with my web book on his lap surrounded by a sprinkling of little white squares after I managed to process the sight I realised that the white things all over the place were the keys of my web book! it took me 10 minutes to put them all back on, thankfully he hadn't broken any of them
