Its funny, I mentioned about this site on 8 November and people were very sceptical about it and to be honest, didn't appear to be interested.

You remind me of that Arabella Weir character on The Fast Show who is completely ignored by a group of men, one of whom then echoes her suggestion to rapturous applause :D
Try changing your name to Martin ;)
    Can I help?

For a 100% way to get 5% off already low supermarket ( sainsburys) petrol simply buy £100 of vouchers for £95. Available online and free postage.

I sometimes buy the vouchers ( when I can be bothered) , also available for argos , woolworths etc. I should really buy them more cos I spend £100 a week on fuel and shopping so would save £250 every year at least.

On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
  • Some tips - regardless of any fuel saving card..

1: dont fill your car until it is as low as practical - this maximises the efficiency of the fuel you burn, as you spend less time pulling round a full tank with you..

2: Fill your car when the weather is really cold - particularly for diesel.. when its a few degrees below, go fill it up then at an all night station! You pay for fuel according to the volume you purchase - but the fuel becomes more dense at low temperatures, thus you get more active fuel molecules for a given 'volume' ££££££!!!! BUT - item 3 is VITAL for this to work..

3: Never fill your tank past the first 'click of the filler nozzle... when the temperature rises, the volume of the fuel will expand.. unless you have already used some, it will expand straight out of the overflow pipe near your filler cap and be wasted... You see people all the time 'topping the tank' to the brim.. very wasteful!

4: keep your tire pressures correct.. under inflated tires have more drag, using more fuel, as well as being unsafe.. overinflated also unsafe!

I wont go on to all the advice about how to 'drive' economically, thats all over the place.. but however you drive, these tips should help avoid wasting fuel to begin with...

Interesting idea, but I'd be surprised if the temperature of the fuel varied a significant amount short-term, it being stored in a huge tank underground. I'm sure you'd use more up making a special journey in the middle of the night to fill up than you'd get for free!
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • What have we got to lose? E-mail your friends and get them to sign up as well. I understand the sceptics arguments that there isn't much profit in petrol. However, if a major retailer can get thousands more customers onto the forecourt (many of which often buy at supermarkets) then they are probably banking on "other" much higher margin sales: confectionery, newspapers, coffee, snacks etc... to boost profit.
  • Cmon guys - am I the only sceptic here.
If something sounds to good to be true it usually is. Besides if Martin said put your hand i the fire would you do that too? many other cliches spring to mind but I guess thats enough of that.

A fuel card for consumers to gain discounts on purchases....hmmmm....really
Even if this does come about it will never be greater than 5p and only usable in stations that will no doubt inflae thier price so that at best you will get the same price per litre than at the supermarkets. The only achievement will be for the petrol retailer gaining thousands more customers who foolishly think there getting a good deal.

In reality if this card does take off then it will reduce the buying power of supermarkets which will in turn force the price up AGAIN. think people !!!

I for one will not be applying - the only gainers here will be the petrol company the card is tied to and of course the guy setting it up - the loosers
    gee I guess thats us.

Lets stop this nonsence, if cheaper petrol is what your after then 350,000+ letters to 10 downing street will have more effect, but a little more effort is involved on our part. - but theres no such thing as a free lunch
  • There are many of us sceptics out there, but I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work, and it's not "something for nothing" really, it's more like a loyalty discount. It's just larger than the usual discount because it's only on offer if there are a large number of customers involved. The seller gets increased revenue through a significantly higher market share, and the punters get their 5-10p off as a reward. Far from suppliers upping their prices, if anything it may entice them to try similar schemes to attract customers back.

And don't forget that if the promised discounts turn out to be insignificant, in our thousands we'll chuck our cards in the bin and return to the supermarkets whence we came!
