It is interesting that the sceptic people who replied on the original thread by Alison_B (I think) are some of the quickest to sign up on Martin's thread.
I for one will not be signing up, and genuinely hope I am wrong in my decision, but reading some of the more informed replies, I also believe the numbers do not stack up.
As an aside the profit each Forecourt makes on fuel is neglible, and only really covers operating costs and handling. 70% of a garage's profit is from shop sales (sweet and stuff) and add on sales (car wash etc.)."See you on the Other Side"0 -

If you look at the FAQ on the website it says that the cards will be free. From what I have read the card will be more like an MVC card (remember them) which allowed card holders an extra discount on goods in the shop.
There is no mention anywhere of this being a credit card and you would need to register a whole lot more information if it was. Remember that this is based on at least 10,000 people signing up and Ben has to prove this to the fuel companies. If it was to be a credit card scheme than we would all have to be credit checked up front for Ben to be able to negotiate with them.To infinity and beyond!0 -
I won't be registering either.
I am concermed about the T&Cs that say you 'agree to receive any messages that are sent to you in relation to fuel discounts and other Pipeline activities'. Er, what other Pipeline activities? Anything at all?
Still no privacy statement and no apparent 'unsubscribe' option.
It's probably just yet another scheme for harvesting email addresses, which will be sold to spammers. Email addresses obtained in this way are much more valuable than ones gained by other means, as the users have actively provided their details.0 -

As I said, there is no explanation of how it will all work and what the price will be (the price of the fuel not the card which is to be free).
I did not say "credit card" (or did I ? nevermind) what I meant was a "charge card" where the bill is passed on to the company running the account (i.e. Ben) then everyone is sent a statement each month for payment, much like a telephone bill. It is not a credit card but just an account, which will need to be paid.0 -

Why don't you all lobby the car manufacturers to make their vehicles 5% more efficient? Then you will be helping the environment instead of just your pockets.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Folks, debating the scheme is of course interesting, but currently rather futile.
Very Worst case scenario: It doesn't work and a few spams are received (as i've said though this is doubtful, and an unsubscribe option is due)
Liikely outcome: THe scheme doesn't work, or does but the discount is too small to be meaning ful:
Possible outcome: 5p-10p off per litre
I simply look at this as risk analysis what do i have to loose compared to what to gain.
The scheme does not have my 'thumbs up' i hope that is clear. It has my 'worth signing up to and re-evaluating once the full details come through' and if we can all together get the thing to work then 'consumer power' boyakasha!Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.
