While I was reading that, several postings appeared saying supermarket prices are cheaper. Unfortunately not in my part of the world. I pass Sainsbury's, Tesco, BP, Shell and Texaco garages on my way to work, and they're much of a muchness. In fact, the Shell is usually a little cheaper.

Ive noticed this too. This last few weeks a lot of the big name garages in my city have drastically dropped their prices. Most of the local garages to me, such as bp, shell, q8, jet etc... are now doing diesel for 94.9, compared to tescos which is 92.9. Some of the locals, esp bp & q8 were usually 5p more than any of the other main brands and miles more than the supermarkets, but now they have dropped their prices considerably. Maybe they are noticing a loss in business due to supermarkets being so cheap and are trying to compete more?
  • Seems OK to me also. They need an easy option to spread their address to friends if they want to build numbers.

I added this info to a large car owners forum and informed them to add to any other motoring forums, should help spread the word

  • Hi,

I'm still trying to help everyone save on petrol with my website www.TaxiGas.co.uk. Like the saver card, I need to reach critical mass.

Although I have many prices submitted I need more and further afield.

The site is free to use and provides data on a google map, on google earth or in tabular form though I have plans to provide GPS data too.

    Best Regards,

    Richard

maybe not but it would have taken you less time to sign up and hope it does than to search the net for details of it being impossible and type up your post.
I'd rather point out the fact that the idea isn't going to work, than register for any number of "make money for nothing" schemes like this.

There simply is NOT the margin available for a discount of 10p to be given to customers. As lots of others have pointed out, 5p off "average" big brand fuel prices is not a particularly big deal as they can tend to be more expensive in any case. And I'm not even sure I believe 5p is likely.

I think that the originator of this scheme is quoting "5p to 10p" to exaggerate the benefits, to get people to sign up, and that it will end up being something less than 5p in fact if indeed it ever gets off the ground.

There have been posts on here previously from taxi owners saying that when the taxi drivers have got together and sought a discount from a single garage in their area, the response has been "on your bike". And these are individual motorists who use far more than the average amount of fuel. If there was money to be made by anyone from getting a lump of additional business, then garages would already be keener to make such deals - they aren't.

If people want to register, go ahead! Just don't hold your breath for those fuel savings of 10p per litre leaving the fuel company with a margin of -5p or thereabouts.
  • With the argument of Tesco, Asda and the other supermarket filling stations being cheaper...

Yes that is true (1 or 2p at the most by me) but myself and a number of friends have noticed and checked and found that supermarket fuels are not as good as Shell, Esso, etc...

You get more Mile to the gallon from Shell/Esso's fuel than from Tesco and Asda...

    Try it...

Supermarket fuel is cheap and effectively 'watered down' (not true but same effect) whereas the others is a higher grade fuel so even if the prices are a few pence different you are better go for the higher... It's also better for your vehicle than the cheap stuff so you could save a fortune overall...!!!

    Simon

PS - this is only our opinions and I will not be held responsable for saying Tesco and Asdas fuel is low grade! :-)

PPS I do still buy from Tesco as the price is cheaper, I get clubcard points and I love pay at pump... But I get more miles from Esso...

Can you provide an independent properly-conducted study to prove that, please? At the very least, there is no way you can make an accurate measurement of fuel consumption when the car driver knows which fuel is being used. It is not a blind test. What do they "water down" this fuel with?
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • I wasn't saying they actually watered down the fuel.... It's just poorer quality (different additives).

I know there is no accurate measurement but I've tried it 3 times with each fuel and I do the same journeys every week and all three times I measured the fuel comsumption and with Tesco I got 45, 46, 46 to the gallon and with Esso I got 49, 49, 48... Proof enough for me... Esso have fuel additives which enhance performance... 3-4 mile to the gallon is alot...

    Anyway up to you...

and I don't work for Esso... :-) In fact I was avoiding esso, shell and BP as part of the email campain that went round trying to get them to lower their prices but that didn't work...

I've signed up for this card... fingers crossed...
