Just signed up - I can see the sense in the sceptics arguements - but for 2 mins of my time I'm willing to take a punt and hope it comes off.

The best way of getting 5p off petrol is to have an Asda open in the area - Tesco soon drop their petrol prices !!!!!!

TRUE. We have both with filling stations. Both are 5p per litre less than Jet, BP and Texaco....and clubcard points too.

    Joined up also.

The colour scheme looks like a BP site. Maybe the deal has already been struck. :D

I hope not!! BP, Shell and Esso are usually always about 5p a litre more expensive than Tesco and Asda etc. If it is BP then i'll be gutted because a discount there will still only bring it to a similar price as Tesco / Asda.

Maybe i'm asking too much, the scheme is a great idea but would be a waste of time to most money savers if the discount is at a "rip off" fuel retailer!

I can see this working but I suspect the price savings will be off the Average price of petrol, rather than a simple discount of the pump price at each forecourt.

So if you normally buy your petrol from a supermarket and use one of their vouchers then you probably won't save any money, in fact it might be more expensive.

However if you buy petrol from a small filling station in the middle of nowhere, or from a motorway service station, and the brand matches the same as the card, the savings could be significant as these places usually charge in excess of the average price.

For example my local chamber of commerce (as with many others nationally), have negotiated a Texaco fuel card:

    http://www.thamesvalleychamber.co.uk/memberservices/moneysavers.asp

This offers 3p / litre off the price of the Texaco *national average* price of petrol. So regardless of whether you fill up at a 98p/litre motorway service station or a 89p supermarket competitor you'll pay exactly the same price (Texaco average less 3p). So in theory at some petrol stations you could end up paying MORE with a fuel card. The Fuel card is also like a credit card, so you pay the bill monthly for the previous months fuel (i.e. 6 weeks interest free credit on average).

If you have to travel a few miles to get to a nearest Texaco, it's already price competitive, and you usually pay with a 1% cash back credit card, then the fuel card may not save any money.

I presume the chamber doesn't have much more than 5000 members who use the fuel card, so with 100,000 the discount negotiated could be much larger, and tip the balance of the savings.

As the Texaco offering is like a credit card, people need to fill in a detailed application form, and issuing is subject to a credit check!

I'm not saying that the Pipeline offering will be the same, but I wouldn't be suprised if it is dissimilar.

But as Martin said nothing much to lose by registering!

I know of the site owner Ben Scammell via the Lancer Register, he is relatively young (just under 30), and you can probably form an opinion of him by searching through the register! I'm a little concerned that there is no option to opt out of martketing from third parties, and there doesn't appear to be any registration (under the terms of the data protection act).

Personally I'll not be adding my details as I get enough spam as it is.

    YMMV - Rufus.
