The Ashburn hotel, Lurgan is fantastic havent had a bad meal in it ever!
Also Stonebridge on the Armagh road out of Portadown, think it's classed as Richhill is also beautiful, more quality of food than quantity!! It matters for some people lol

  • Peking Gardens, Newtownards - food gorgeous and service great and they do a 3 course early bird menu for £9 per person.
Goodfellas, Kennedy Way, Belfast - nicest pizza in the world! (even better than the pizza I had in Rome!) Family friendly and really reasonable prices. (My fav place to eat in Norn Iron)
Zen, Belfast - great for special occasions when you want to go a bit OTT. Expensive but the decor is breathtaking and the sushi is fabulous!

Anyone been to Brewers Fayre in Carrickfergus? Was it any good. Do they accept the national money off vouchers and BOGOFs?

The Millside in Cloughmills - the last place you would expect to get a good meal (and I should know, I lived there for 20 years...). Put it this way - the chef used to work in the Causeway Hotel, and the mixed grill is actually *bigger* than the Causeway's.

Maybe not the poshest food in the world, but it's good grub. If you need me to translate for you, let me know ;-)

Zen on Adelaide Street (which does Japanese food) is the best restaurant I've been to in Ireland.

That's not to say I've been to them all but my girlfriend and I would go out for dinner at least every fortnight.

We like to try new places that open up in Belfast but find that we keep going back to Zen every time we want somewhere special as it is consistently excellent.

Maybe a little pricey but it depends on what you call expensive and how special the occasion is.

It's around £35 a head for three courses (sushi, generous starter and main) and £6 per cocktail, which compares favourably to most other places that stick the arm in for cocktails (closer to a tenner in Malmaison and the quality is the same in my view). I recommend the watermelon Martini.

Well it's all down to personal taste of course but my girlfriend and I usually go for set menu B which is £35 if I remember correctly. There are a few choices within that of course but I keep going back to the old favourite combination:

    - chef's choice of sushi (which usually seems to involve tuna or cooked duck rolls)
    - minced duck in some sort of hoi-sin sauce (sorry I can't remember what it is exactly but it's usually gone in a flash!) on crispy cracker-type pancakes
    - steak and asparagus rolls in a black pepper sauce that's a bit like teriaki (delicious, totally melt-in-the-mouth beef - I'd usually order a side portion of green beans or such like for a couple of pounds extra but one between two usually suffices)
    - dessert & tea/coffee

But I'd say whatever you choose, it's hard to go wrong. The staff are lovely there too. They are only too happy to explain the menu if there's anything you're unfamiliar with.

    Enjoy!
