I have been with A&L for 33years and loyal to them up until recently. When the moneyback started a few years ago it was at 2% for a few months then reduced to 1%.
It is now at 0.5%
In the past I have made mistakes on my account and previosly, although they were my mistakes a manger has scrapped any charges made. Recently I waited for a balance to become available on my current account for a cheque that I had deposited. After 4 days the balance showed as available and I transferred money from the account. Unfortunately I had not signed the cheque that was deposited so it did not clear and A&L CHARGED ME £25 for this. My point is that if the cheque was not cleared it should have not shown as available on my account and I would not have done the transfer. I feel that the A&L are becoming very much less customer friendly than thet were. My loyalty has Gone.

Please help I have a Halifax credit card and spend over 2k a month on it but the cash back has just dropped, which is the best visa or mastercard for cash back? I dont us american express as find it hard to get places to take it, must be visa/mastercard.
Many thanks0 -
Have a look at Martin's latest article on cashback cards:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1087717218,37843,
Amex certainly comes out on top, though - if you put your shopping and petrol spend on your current card it's certainly worth considering as most supermarkets and petrol stations take it.
You would, however, need a backup visa/mastercard due to acceptance levels. As long as you're happy juggling two card I'd give Amex another thought.0 -
Have had problems in the past obtaining credit which I can only assume is to do with a 'default' notice on an account (which i completely overlooked around about the time of moving house to a new city and getting married) - as soon as I realised I paid it off.
Anyway now in much better shape financially, no debts at all (except mortgage :-)) and want to apply for a. a cashback card for new spending and b. a 0% interest card to take advantage of Martins' beat the banks advice. I do have 2 credit cards at the moment, both paid off in full each month. My CreditExpert from Experian says credit score is 'fair'. Anyone know which cards are the most (or least) likely to accept?Don't want to get lots of searches on my record0 -
as far as i am aware, the amex platinum does not only pay 2% for amounts over £5000, but for the whole amount spent on the card in that year once you cross £5000 ie. also on £1-5000.
please correct me if i am wrong.

I'm sorry JR you are wrong. You only get 2% above £5000 you get tiered rates underneath. The t&cs are ambigious so in the past i have specifically checked this point with the Amex hierarchy.

I think the A&L 1% cashback was before the sold their credit card business to MBNA.
I believe they kept it for existing customers?0 -
I looked Bank of Ireland Website and there is no mention of cashback except for the AMEX card. Is the cashback card currently available? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I think this is what you're looking for

I've got one of their moneyback cards and have had no problems yet0 -
I'm with A&L and only get .05% cash back. Has been that for about a year now.
