I live right down south and I am just buying a house. Am I able to put the cash that I have onto one of these cash back credit card then when I Spend the £15 grand for solicitors and 10% of my mortgage will, I still receive the money back even though I have put the money on there first? ???
Great article keep up the good work your saving me loads on my gas and electric and every penny count on your first house rightThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
In my experience you don't receive cashback if your balance is in credit above your limit. This has happened to me with Morgan Stanley and Halifax.
Have you checked with your solicitor that you can pay the bill and deposit with a credit card? Mine wouldn't let me, it was cash, bankers cheque or electronic transfer.
If they do let you pay by credit card I wouldn't be surprised if they add a few percent on top.0 -
I got an Amex Blue ages ago (thanks to Martin) and they sent me through a form to upgrade to the Platinum card. Which I did. It's easy to spend over £5k if all spending goes on the card. So roll on that 2% cash -back.0

Hi Martin. At last got to the web page! I have used a Morgan Stanley Platignum card for a long time now and am more than happy, I have found them to be friendly & efficient. I always pay off the balance by DD and every October get a nice cheque £3/400.

Hi
Can someone clarify the Amex 2% cashback, their websites states
"An annual rebate on the aggregate amount of all Transactions (other than Cash Withdrawals) will be payable to you by us at the following rates:
- 0.5% for aggregate amounts up to £2,000; and
- 1.0% for aggregate amounts from £2,001 to £5,000; and
- 2% for aggregate amounts in excess of £5,000
What does aggregate mean, I assume it means that if you spend over £5000 in the year you will get 2%, or do you only get 0.5% on the first £2000 & 1.0 on the next 2001 to 5000.
thanks

Karl,
I understand it like this:
Spend £2000 you get £10 (0.5% of £2k)
Go on spending up to £5000 you will get £30 (1% of £3k)
So you would get £40 for £5000 spend (or 0.8%)
Then anything over £5000 starts to earn 2%. Spend £10000 then you will earn £100 cash back (2% of £5k)
That's how i'm playing it (but I could have it completely wrong).

Talking about cashback cards do egg still give you 0.5% back on their cards?0

Yup. Paid in September if I remember correctly.0

There is also Barclaycard Choice. But I don't think it's generally available.
If you've had a barclaycard forever, attempt to cancel to go to a cashback card and say nectar is rubbish, they may offer it. :-/
It's 0.5% up to 4k and 1% after that. There doesn't appear to be an upper limit. The cashback rates double for non-GBP transactions.0 -
I have recently started using my student barclaycard and it says on my statements that I have earnt a level of cashback which is equivalent to 1%. However it doesn't say how I can collect this money and I can not find any information about the cashback on the barclaycard website.
Does anybody else have a student barclaycard and know how or when I can get this money?
Also I have not found any information about this offer in Martin's pages about credit cards, but with the 1% cashback and also nectar points surely this would be one of the best cards for students?Proud to be a moneysaver! :cool:0
