    Yes - it's worth it!
Call up to leave as you're not at home much so dont get to watch much tv. Thye may offer you it for free. We didnt do this but we have several friends who have :)
It's worth paying for though, if not. I love my sky +.

I cancelled Sky 2 weeks ago, they did make various offers, but none relating to Sky+ which I wanted.

They rang yesterday, offered free Sky+ box, free installation, plus £50 credit on my account!

As you can imagine, I said yes!

Only downer is, I have to keep my phone line connected, which is in the hallway, so will maybe have to install a new phone extension... :-(
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

Ours too. So we've never connected it. It's been like that for nearly a year, and we've never had a phone call from them to tell us off about it.

Ours is too. We unplugged it as the Sky Engineer drove off. Never been back in, works fine, never heard a peep.

  • When I originally signed upto Sky + I was charged £99 for the box and then £60 for installation. I then phoned up the next day and asked them to cancel as I had paid for installation the first time I had Sky fitted and I paid x amount each month, and didnt feel I should pay the £60.00. The agent agreed with me and refunded straight away.

I have now cancelled my Sky+- had the full package and Sky+ multi room, I now have the freeview recorder box which does the same job, with less channels. But a one off payment of £100.
  • I think Sky+ is great, could not be without it now for TV viewing.

I got it fitted for free last year after I said I wanted to cancel, because I could not watch the programs I wanted to at the time I had.

So they offered Sky+ for £99, I managed to get it for free after abit of haggling.;)

I have to disagree - though perhaps that's as we are in an odd situation.

When we ordered sky+, the fitter came and explained that we only had one sky feed so would only be able to record the channel we were watching at that point. When we asked what we could do to change this he explained we would need another feed, and that this would cost several thousand pounds (we are the only poeple in the building who use sky, so no-one else to split the cost with).

Anyway, we went ahead, and it's rubbish - we can only record the channel we are watching - so not any help to us and cannot record when the tv if switched off. so we only use it for live pause and rewind. A very expensive feature!

We are finding less and less to watch on tv all the time so are in the process of cancelling our package - or at least switching down a package. Regardless of sky+ we just don't feel that they offer much more than freeview these days.

Thats obviously not the norm though, and I agree it would be rubbish if I had it like yours.

However the normal installation has 2 feeds and lets you record upto 2 programmes on different channels whilst watching a third pre-recorded one. The "series link" feature is excellent on top of the pause and rewind feature, and its very simple to use.

Also I can turn my TV off, or have it totally disconnected from the Sky box and it will still record as the feed goes and records on the box not the TV. I dont see why yours should not be the same.

In regards to prgrammes it's really subjective as I watch alot of programmes/docummnetries etc that are not on freeview. In fact when I had just freeview I started watching the shopping channels I was that bored with what they had:rotfl:
  • How do you find the time to watch all that you record? I tape programmes then seldom watch them.

it appears that several people have got sky+ free by cancelling. Dont just threaten, ask them to cancel the account. You then get put through to the cancellation dept who have more power. Tell them you want to cancel because sky on is own is no good to you because you are not at home at the right time to watch the programmes you want. Dont worry that you have tried it once as you will get a different agent next time. If they dont bite, go ahead with the cancellation.....it takes 30 days notice during which time they WILL ring you to ask you to stay. Even if they didnt you can always stop the cancellation at the very last minute. You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain
