Sky+ - is it worth it?

I cant remember exactly when it happened , but the £10 extra charge for sky+ features was dropped sometime in 2007.
There is a £10 month charge for multiroom as well
sky 6 mixes plus sports plus multi room is £50 so you may not have been paying for sky+ after all.
Thanks Carly. But, I'm convinced I was paying the £10 for Sky+. We moved house two and a half years ago and changed from Sky to Sky+ with multiroom then - I was told that we would get multiroom free because I had SkySports(?).
If the charge for Sky+ was droppped in 2007, I would expect my monthly direct debit to be reduced but it didn't. Perhaps it was Sky+ that we had free because we had SkySports? Now I'm really confused!
Anyway, would you try again to cancel and hope they offer something better than a £5 reduction??There We Are Then !!

When we ordered sky+, the fitter came and explained that we only had one sky feed so would only be able to record the channel we were watching at that point. When we asked what we could do to change this he explained we would need another feed, and that this would cost several thousand pounds (we are the only poeple in the building who use sky, so no-one else to split the cost with).
is there anyway of knowing if this is likely to happen on my property? ie is there something I should look for?0 -

well the problem was that we only have one feed for sky as opposed to two - but I'm afraid I don't know how to tell if you have one or two feeds? Perhaps someone else can help??
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

Hi r.mac (& JennyW)
I'm supprised the Sky+ engineer didn't replace your cable when installing Sky+??? It maybe due to the access to your dish?? Say if you live in a high rise building??
Anyway, like others have stated, to have full function Sky+ tv (ie. to record one channel while watching another) you need a dual feed from your dish to your reciever(Sky+ box). This is basically two cables usually joined as one and split into two connectors at the dish and box end. Most older systems will only have one feed (or cable) from the dish to the box. You can look at the back of your sky box to see this?
When I had Sky+ installed two years ago, this wasn't mentioned prior to the engineer's visit!!?? and he commented that I needed a dual feed to the box??? However, he kindly agreed to replace the single cable for the dual cable, and after moving my furnature and lifting the carpet this was done. I got the impression that this wasn't the norm and it was on the discretion of the engineer?
All I can advise that you agree the installation of the dual feed with Sky prior to installing Sky+.
Hope this answers a few questions.0 -
I have had Sky+ for over a year, but not very impressed with it. It lives or dies by the EPG - which I find to be a rubbish way of navigating TV schedules. Some of recordings don't work. It has a habit of blocking out manually set recordings so although they are on the hard drive you can't actually get access to them. The whole Sky Anytime feature is rubbish and should be switched off at the install point. A decent Freeview / or FTA satellite pvr would be a better bet.
Oh and I got mine for £49 with a free install last summer when I threatened to leave.0 -
Hi all,
Can I ask a Sky + if my friends records a progam from me is there anyway of downloading it on to DVD/laptop so I can watch it at home or would I have to actually watch it at my friends house ?"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -

The PVR bit of a Sky+ receiver won't work with just one cable feed - you will only be able to tape the channel you are watching. If you don't want a second cable to be installed - dump the Sky+ and get a decent DVD recorder with built-in hard drive.0 -

Yes, there's no problem in playing back a Sky+ programme and recording this on a DVD recorder. If you can see a picture, you can record it!0 -
I find the best function is the remote record, when on holiday or away from the house and remember a programme I wanted to record, or a colleague at work mentions something, I log into my Sky account, and pop the programme into the remote record and hey presto it's there for when I get home!
I've also discovered a few good programmes shoved (automatically by Sky) into the Anytime TV pre-records that I would either have never considered watching or never heard of before!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

Thanks Rivo. This is really helpful. I'll print it off and show mu husband. We can check the cabling before deciding if we want to go ahead.0
