Sky+ - is it worth it?

I currently record programmes to my DVD hard drive and I'm just debating whether it's worth splashing out £160 to get a sky+ box delivered and set up. I appreciate it's appeal to pause and rewind live tv, but are they really worth all the hype?

  • I would be lost without Sky+. It is so simple and just does what it claims.

So if you already have Sky then yes I would make the upgrade (PS, existing Sky users can actually jump to HD for £75 at the moment so you should be able to get Sky+ for less).
  • I too think it is great, it is so simple and easy to use

We went from sky to sky+ and definately think it is worth it.

With sky+ you can record two channels simultaneously and set a link to record an entire series too. I wouldn't be without it now that there is no longer a monthly charge. Do you currently have sky? If you do , it would be worth ringing them and asking for a free sky+ box ( threaten to leave if they dont, they will usually make a decent offer in order to keep customers. If you dont have sky at all there are "refer a friend" offers that will get you a free sky+ box subject to a currently £30 set up charge. Let me know if you want more information on how these work

Yes I currently have sky and for existing customers, the best price for just a box upgrade to SKy+ is £99 with £60 installation. If you order by end of September Sky will credit your account with £15.00

Sky HD upgrade to existing customers is £150.00 with £60 installation.

oh wow - didn't realise they charged a monthly fee before? We have tried the "threaten to leave" line but it didn't work :(

I'm confuzzled. People have Sky+ and don't pay a monthly fee? Tell me how! We have the cheapest package and it's £17/month.

At the moment this is £75 with £60 install (although some have managed to get £30 install). It's being advertised in all the papers this week and is the only reason there is now a HD box in my living room.

Sorry I confused you, I was referring to the extra £10 month we used to have to pay for the sky+ features, not for the channels
