  • Afternoon all,

PenPin, glad you have cleared the air with your helper - I expect you feel better for doing that. And I agree, being a listening ear for your friend is the best thing you can do for her.
Kaatlady, sorry your DS can't make it after all - hope the flowers were lovely though.
Diva, have you had a better afternoon than morning then?
Redruby, good for you!!!!!! I would be exactly the same if a company tried to dictate to me who should be at home & who shouldn't - especially in the current climate when you would think they would be keen for business. If I'm paying then I call the shots!!!

Been at Uni today & study group went well, especially as I have finally found a dissertation topic I want to write about (older people & social exclusion if anyone's an expert & can provide suggestions ;);) ). Got home around 2.30 & crashed out on the sofa on & off till around 5 - not sure why, I just felt absolutely drained/shattered all of a sudden.
Time to sort some supper out now though - and a cup of tea I think.

    Kaat, Happy Birthday :bdaycake:

Stupid computer  It decided I didn't have an internet connection 2 days ago, I tried to fix it but couldn't so spent ages backing everything up then doing a new install. Then I had to put everything back on, just thought it was all fine but the refresh rate was pants so I've sorting that, and here I finally am - stop groaning, I can HEAR YOU you know :rotfl:

It's amazing how much you get done when you can't get onto MSE :D Shopping, cooking, gardening, clear-outs, budgets, plans. I need a day off :D

Back home and just had dinner, before we go to some friends. OH will go off with Ju's OH to play snooker, and Ju and I will have a glass (or 3) of Chardonnay
Phew!!! I really need one too, been a busy day.
Hope you have all had a good day and nice weather, its been good today here....makes a change.....I popped into MrM's earlier and stocked up on a few bits and pieces, so I now have a cupboard full of special offers, tea bags, baked beans, chick peas (18p a large tin), tinned tomatoes also got a few lots of braising beef, and some english muffins (my fav at the mo toasted with a smidgin of apricot jam) they are 2 packs (6 in each)for £1, bought 4 while they have them and froze 3pks.

OH fell asleep on the sofa, he's been doing that a lot lately, He went to the Doc's on Monday had another blood test, and has to go back for the results tomorrow, hopefully they will be ok. Must say he does seem a little better on these tabs than he was on the others, but we will see tomorrow.

I better go and get ready
enjoy the rest of your evening everyone

Sistercas - Tomato and Lentil soup

No quantities here because I just shoved things into the Remoska.

I rinsed a handful of split red lentils, then boiled them for ten minutes - this is essential but it should tell you that on the packet.

Put the lentils in the Remoska with some peeled and chopped tomatoes (or tinned ones would do just as well, I should think), a chopped onion, two cloves of garlic (crushed), a knob of butter, some hot stock (mine was an Oxo with Herbs de Provence and seasoning) and cook for about an hour or so (until everthing is soft). Leave to cool for ten minutes, then blend. You can add cream if you want - it's delicious.

The seasoning I used is from the Co-op, on the Indian counter. It's just called Chicken seasoning and the last packet I bought only cost 49p. I add it to practically everything - it really seems to bring the flavour out of any dish, not just chicken. I use a quarter of a teaspoon each time so the packet lasts for ages. All the different spices in the range are brilliant and so cheap. I couldn't believe what a difference they make to food.

I've made lots of soups since I got the Remoska because it's so easy to shove everything in leave it, just stirring now and again. Most of the ones I've made have been with leftovers or bits that there aren't enough of to make a proper meal (IYSWIM) so they're cheap as well, especially as you can make enough for another meal.

thanks for that Kathy I will definitly make it this week . I tried to post this earlier and it all crashed and I have only just got back on.

    Hi everyone
Just grabbing 5 mins. whilst watching the One Show. Been unpacking, and loading up the wardrobes and cupboards. Talk about overstock of creams and make up, I must avoid Boots for the next 2 years at least:eek: :o:o Better start wearing make up daily me thinks. Also got the bags down ready for the trip, so feeling a little more organised. I must admit it has been a good exercise to do, and found far too much bedding too.

DH has declared that he is not buying any more clothes for a while too, I've not declared that though.

I don't kill spiders btw, I catch them in a coffee jar and let them loose outside, its just earwigs which get flattened.

Got a call from our GP's surgery late this afternoon, they are doing a Heart Check tomorrow morning and would I like to attend, so going there, might as well take advantage of the first check up I've ever been offered!

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Hello all :hello:

Work is horrid, still in four days I will have been there nine years, so I should know what to expect at this time of year  It's just so hard placing electricity contracts this year! And the customers will not like their price rises, but they watch Martin Lewis, right? :D

Sausages, new pots and broccolli for tea today. DD2 has a cold and is really feeling poorly :( Hope she feels better soon. Had a good bargain shop RTC at the Co-op today, so that put a smile on my face :D

Hugs for all and especially for Spidey Safe Operatives :D

I go to the one near me West Drive/Fleetwood Road North, they reduce at six (or just before) half price first reduction, half again if it's still there morning after. They reduce the day before the BB date too. So I watch the dates.. :D

It's a bit far for me to trundle across town to there, just in case you've left anything behind, so think I will stick to Mr T's - after all, I work just over the fence so can nip in & pick up stuff quite easily! I think they had a herd of cows in the back today - lots of reduced beef joints, oxtail () and steak......stands back as Whatatwit stampedes to meat aisle in search of bargains.....

BTW, that Tesco store is closing for about 8 days in October for its "refurb"...... should be interesting, our canteen will have to double it's grocery orders to feed the staff who normally get lunch from Mr T!

Thanks Kaat, I phoned the company back and asked what they meant, they said that both partners need to be there, so that one does not get cross if the other makes a decision  . I explained that this is my house and I will be making a decission, but they still inststed that my OH be here, , I was so b****y cross, I had this house long before OH came on the scene, and am quite capeable of deciding things myself, any hoo I told them this in no uncertain terms and have cancelled, there is no way they will be getting my cash.

So sorry your son can't be there with you today xx

    Thanks to churchmouse too xx

    Diva hugs to you xx

I had exactly the same situation with about 5 double glazing companies back when I was married to 2nd hubby, even though it was and still is solely my house. It really annoyed me too.Eventually I got a firm that didn't need a stepford situation to sell me windows:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
