I have got compay coming round tonight to quote me for new facias and guttering, they just phoned to confirm, and asked if I would be alone, why would they do that ?, its really put my back up and freeked me out a bit, and I feel like cancelling, why do they need to know if I will be alone ?
Well better get on xx
redruby, it's probably not sinister. Lots of companies insist on coming only when both partners are home. They want you to sign on the dotted line there and then, and don't like the "get out" of " I'll have to talk to my husband/partner first" DS2 and DIL had lots of trouble getting double-glazing firms to come out in the daytime because he wouldn't be there:rolleyes:
Happy Anniversary to the jannyannies!!!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Sunnyday your hotel looks fab, it must be one of the only ones where they allow dog guests x

I don't have a dog of my own at the moment, but if/when we do get one, I'd hertainly want to take him/her on holiday. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hi all and Happy Birthday to Kaatlady - have a lovely time tonight! There are a lot of September birthdays on here!
Whatatwit - I hadn't thought of knitting boobs for real - I could do with some myself in that department! Just think - I can choose what size to be!
Well, I can't believe all this talk about rain. It was lovely and sunny here this morning and has turned cooler now but no rain is forecast and, on Radio Two earlier, they said we are in for some good weather right into next week - mind you, how often do they get the forecasts right these days?!
We've been shopping but didn't really get much - because it was sunny we just enjoyed the stroll. I did spend the rest of my book tokens on some knitting and crochet books. I would never have spent the full price in cash so it was a nice treat having the tokens.
DH is doing one of his special omelettes for tea tonight - it's the only thing he can cook but he does make a really good one.
I still have office files to sort out and then my office will be complete; well, I also have to iron the curtains which have been on the line since early this morning.
Anyway, enough mioliering - I hope everyone is well.
Beth - I do wish you would take it easy!
(((Hugs))) to all the poorly ones today.

Sistercas - Tomato and Lentil soup
No quantities here because I just shoved things into the Remoska.
I rinsed a handful of split red lentils, then boiled them for ten minutes - this is essential but it should tell you that on the packet.
Put the lentils in the Remoska with some peeled and chopped tomatoes (or tinned ones would do just as well, I should think), a chopped onion, two cloves of garlic (crushed), a knob of butter, some hot stock (mine was an Oxo with Herbs de Provence and seasoning) and cook for about an hour or so (until everthing is soft). Leave to cool for ten minutes, then blend. You can add cream if you want - it's delicious.
The seasoning I used is from the Co-op, on the Indian counter. It's just called Chicken seasoning and the last packet I bought only cost 49p. I add it to practically everything - it really seems to bring the flavour out of any dish, not just chicken. I use a quarter of a teaspoon each time so the packet lasts for ages. All the different spices in the range are brilliant and so cheap. I couldn't believe what a difference they make to food.
I've made lots of soups since I got the Remoska because it's so easy to shove everything in leave it, just stirring now and again. Most of the ones I've made have been with leftovers or bits that there aren't enough of to make a proper meal (IYSWIM) so they're cheap as well, especially as you can make enough for another meal.

Hi all
Sorry not to have been posting til now but I had a horrible horrible morning and it's taken me til now to compose myself enough to read the thread and catch up.
Firstly - Kaat honey - Happy Birthday!!Sorry your son can't get there til later in the week but think of it as having two birthdays!
There do seem to be a lot of virgos around on this board - maybe it's because they all love to be organised and have things just 'so'?
Congratulations Dazi!
jannyannie - Happy Anniversary I hope you're feeling better today
PennyPincher - glad you were able to sort things out with your home help. I am really lucky to have clicked with the first lady they sent me and she is a huge help.
Essexgirl - fingers crossed for you here too!
jayward - so glad to hear your OH's job is safe
beth - glad your husband is doing so well, that must be a huge relief.
joannasmum - hope your husband is okay and that he won't have to wait too long for his tests etc.
*Hugs* to everyone who needs one and congrats to anyone who is celebrating today.

Redruby..I hope you didnt tell them you would be alone,,is your DH going to be there,,cancel if not
Thanks Kaat, I phoned the company back and asked what they meant, they said that both partners need to be there, so that one does not get cross if the other makes a decision. I explained that this is my house and I will be making a decission, but they still inststed that my OH be here, , I was so b****y cross, I had this house long before OH came on the scene, and am quite capeable of deciding things myself, any hoo I told them this in no uncertain terms and have cancelled, there is no way they will be getting my cash.
So sorry your son can't be there with you today xx
Thanks to churchmouse too xx
Diva hugs to you xx0 -
Afternoon all.
Well, the rain has managed to stay off today :j
We had a lovely time with friends, and I managed to go to the fruit and veg market, picking up some absolute bargains. Best one was 8 bunches of large spring onions [about 5 onions per bunch] for only £1, so I will be looking to do something with spring onions now :rotfl:
