Have you been to see Pembroke Lodge? My friend went to a wedding there a couple of weeks ago. She said the location is beautiful but it was basic for the surroundings in terms of food and organisation.
Sounds like a lovely setting though.

Yukkibear, could you ask your friend what the bar prices were like and whether they had draught beer or just bottles? Thats one of the main issues for us.

Gill, thanks for the suggestion but we really don't want a hotel. Its difficult to explain why but we want something a bit different.

Its sooo hard!! Did anyone else have such problems choosing a venue or is it just us being fussy?

We basically want somewhere that has got a decent and well stocked bar. That has a bit of character and individuality and doesn't feel too stuffy. Preferably with a bit of history and some outside space like a green or common. Surely not too much to ask :p

sorry aimee could you change my date. we are now getting married on the 9th august at the mill forge in gretna:j .

it's brilliant as everything is in the same place, venue, accomodation and reception.

we were going to go abroad but with the credit crunch we thought it was unfair to expect our families to have to fork out loads to attend our wedding. we are going to use our tesco clubcard points for a fabulous honeymoon.:j
 married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-09:love:

Yes I will when I see her next. The main things I remember her saying was that £5k was put behind the bar and it was gone by 10.30pm.
The food was sparse for the cost (you could enquire on that though), but when I see her I'll certainly ask for you

    £5k?? Jeez!!

Pub it is then! Or we've found another possible venue - the London Wetland Centre. Its a really beautiful place, the prices are better than Pembroke Lodge and probably more flexibility on catering.

We're due to go and visit Pembroke Lodge on Saturday morning and one of the questions I was going to ask was what were the bar prices as for us its important that our guests can actually afford to come and have a few drinks!

Thanks for letting me know, Yukkibear!

No worries, my friend was quite shocked when the bride told her,but I don't know how many guests that was and how long the tab was open from etc,or what they were all drinking, so a lot could factor into that Isuppose
