Thanks Steph and congrats siren!
I'm now not sure about the place. I mean its beautiful but OH doesn't think its 'us' and we're concerned that drinks for the guests will be too expensive. Don't know the price of the bar, but as its not fixed can imagine that it could be quite pricey.
What do people think of having the reception in a pub? Thats what we have been looking at recently but can't find one we like that will fit 40 for a sit down and dance later."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -

We have finally set a date 5/5/2013 i know its a while off yet but im dead excited!
Alleycat, you should have your reception where you both think is right it shouldn't be about your guest they should be happy that you invited them on your special day!
Hey gemgems have you got everything sorted?

OH. MY. GOD.
My dad has just phoned me to say that him and mum were wondering if we fancied somewhere called Pembroke Lodge.
We were basing our search on budget of max £2000 for the reception and have been looking at various pubs with function rooms in the Richmond, Kew, Chiswick area (west/south west London). We went out yesterday afternoon to look at a couple I had seen and really loved the websites of, but came home very late, tired and disappointed. None had been what I was looking for in terms of style of room. Lovely staff members, catering etc but trying not to sound too bridezillaish just weren't quite what I had pictured in my head.
Anyway, when we initially got engaged I spent a bit of time mooching for venues and saw Pembroke Lodge but immediately discounted it as being too expensive. I just cannot believe that my parents have offered to pay for this place. They are just so amazing. I feel really quite emotional!
I just thought that we're both now in our thirties (me only just!), have been together for over 8 years and have a three and a half year old. We should just have a low key wedding reception as its not like we are young things tying the knot. We're all but married, just don't have the piece of paper. But I still had that dream of being married somewhere beautiful......and now it looks like we will! I just hope they're not booked up!
Sorry, for waffling but OH is watching a boring prog on BBC that doesn't finish until 10 (ooh now!) and won't come and look at the pictures.
Have you been to see Pembroke Lodge? My friend went to a wedding there a couple of weeks ago. She said the location is beautiful but it was basic for the surroundings in terms of food and organisation.
Sounds like a lovely setting though.0 -

Can you add me too please? Our date is the 23rd May 2009. Decided on May as its half term week and DD is still in nursery. So it should be okay to take her out for a week if we decide to have a honeymoon.
Congratulations! And that's 5 of us on 23rd May now!
I'm starting to get quite excited and wanting the day to come quicker, even though I have loads of crafty things to do for it.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Alleycat, it might be worth having a word with your parents and seeing if they're generous offer would apply if you picked a hotel or other venue that you felt was more suitable for you and your OH? They obviously want you to have a dream day, but you might be able to get a compromise of something that is inbetween the lodge and a pub, maybe a hotel or similar.Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0

Hi Steph,
Thank you, we're thrilled but am feeling like it's going to be a bit tricky with the late nights and last minute organising of the day!!! I live in Liverpool, about 20-25 minutes down the East Lancs (or 10 if you're my brother!!!)
Thanks also for updating the dates, Aimee. Good luck and congratulations to everyone else!!!:A :
