That dress is beautiful. It does look silver in the picture though. At least with Next if you order you can return it if it isn't right. Tiger x

We are getting married in the Hallmark Hotel

The room with the arches in as the photos go through is where we are getting married and the room with the striped wallpaper is where we are having the reception. It has just been renovated to a four star boutique hotel and it is truly stunning. It will look beuatiful lit with fairy lights and candles, (if I am allowed them) x

Gorgeous dress Dawn! Looks like it was a wonderful day.

We're getting lots of big tasks done over the next week - going up to Perthshire to get wine, meeting with the celebrant, ordering other drink, sorting out decorations, breathing, sleeping...
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Hello past, present, and future brides! I hope I am posting in the right place, sorry if I'm not but I really just need to get this rant off my chest...

I sent off 26 invitations to relatives and friend in the USA five weeks ago and asked them to rsvp by today. I need to know who is and isn't coming from the US as their numbers depend on how many I can invite from the UK.

I have had 1, yes ONE, rsvp back and I'm pretty p'ed off about it. I handmade all of the invitations and even included an RSVP with:
    ____ Accept with Pleasure
    ____ Decline with regret

Is it too much to ask people to tick a box?!?!?!?!? Do people not understand that we have a timescale to try and stick to and if they don't reply, we can't get on with the rest of the planning?!?

Any other brides out there having similar problems? I just think it's so rude for people not to have the courtesy to reply after all of the effort I went to, to make it as easy as possible! So, do I now have to go and call everyone I sent an invitation to and find out if they are coming or not?!? It's time I don't have and could really do without!

Ok, rant over and thanks. xx

This wound us up a bit too. We handmade ours and included RSVP with both our mobile nos, email addresses and home address....
We got one card of acceptance and a few texts.

Quite a few people said 'definitely' straight away upon opening, but we were left to chase a lot of people which I didn't think was fair.

We chased a lot of people for RSVPs and two just never responded. Fortunately they also didn't come, otherwise they'd have had to sit outside and think about what they did.

I've finally finished my thank you notes, two months late but the first month was just chaos with work and the second, I spent most of it in the hospital with my grandmother. Done now though, I'm delighted. They only need my husband to add a scrawl to some of them and then they can be stamped and posted. Hurrah!

    Hi again guys

Has anyone on here had a wedding where there is just a wedding breakfast following the ceremony and no actual party reception later? If it's literally just day guests then I think that would be easier?
We are thinking of a party later, once we've bought our first home. Is that acceptable behaviour do you think?

    Hi Lilian,
We're not having an evening reception either!
We're getting married at 11am at our local register office, then walking through the market place (!!!) to our favourite restaurant where they've agreed to let us have sole occupancy for us and our 50 guests for the whole afternoon. (11.45-5.30pm) Its an independant fab boutique type place - fabulous food and with a lovely garden terrace out back. The best thing about it is they're not charging us any extra with it being a wedding.....we're having canapes on arrival and a set menu we've chosen where guests can choose on the day what they'd like (choice of 3 starters, mains, (red snapper / beef olives/ chicken with proscuitto) and coffee & homemade choccies) for £24 per head! We're having champagne cocktails, with the canapes, on arrival for the drinks reception, and half bottle per pers wine on table....for an additional £10 per head. They're not charging for room hire / linen hire / etc etc
The best thing about it is we're spending a lovely day with close friends and family, enjoying fine food and wine in a place that means a lot to us both. Our car then picks us up at 5.30pm to take us to our lovely suite in our fave hotel in Newcastle for a couple of nights;)....I do feel quite selfish, as its all our favourite things, but it's our day and we think its amazing value for what we're having!!! I really wouldn't have it any other way!

I've been to so many weddings where they've 'had to' have minimum people for buffets etc / charge a fortune for room hire / expensive drinks packages / limited menus and I'd rather have something that's genuine, brilliant quality and isn't going to leave me feeling a bit ripped off or worried about paying for it.

I think in this current climate you can have the wedding you really want - just gotta think out of the box! It is your day, and I'm sure if you're happy and having a fabulous time then all your guests will!
Sorry to have rambled on a bit!!

    Hels xx
