Thanks a lot for the advice joolesw1972 - it really is a minefield and can spiral so easily!

Hello past, present, and future brides! I hope I am posting in the right place, sorry if I'm not but I really just need to get this rant off my chest...
I sent off 26 invitations to relatives and friend in the USA five weeks ago and asked them to rsvp by today. I need to know who is and isn't coming from the US as their numbers depend on how many I can invite from the UK.
I have had 1, yes ONE, rsvp back and I'm pretty p'ed off about it. I handmade all of the invitations and even included an RSVP with:
____ Accept with Pleasure
____ Decline with regret
Is it too much to ask people to tick a box?!?!?!?!? Do people not understand that we have a timescale to try and stick to and if they don't reply, we can't get on with the rest of the planning?!?
Any other brides out there having similar problems? I just think it's so rude for people not to have the courtesy to reply after all of the effort I went to, to make it as easy as possible! So, do I now have to go and call everyone I sent an invitation to and find out if they are coming or not?!? It's time I don't have and could really do without!
Ok, rant over and thanks. xxOfficial DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Hi again guys
Has anyone on here had a wedding where there is just a wedding breakfast following the ceremony and no actual party reception later? We are desperately trying to save for a mortgage deposit and it seems this reception part is where we'll fall down with costs - it's easy to limit day guests but not if some of your friends have to be cut to evening only. If it's literally just day guests then I think that would be easier?
We are thinking of a party later, once we've bought our first home. Is that acceptable behaviour do you think? My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

if that's what you wan then go for it! but I'm finding that the breakfast is the most expensive bit, and the party is just some more people turning up, if you don't have a DJ it might not be that expensive. Where is the breakfast going to be, will there be a logical end when people know to leave otherwise they might just hang around expecting it to last all night.0 -
Thanks for that. I was thinking of just hiring a private dining room in a restaurant, and once it's done it's done, and myself and OH can go and have our wedding night before we're too tired and drunk
I've only been to two weddings and they've both been very lavish so I really don't know what's allowed and what isn't.
I think the reason I want to do this is so I don't have to offend "evening only" people - the majority of people I'm inviting are from my office or people who will travel, there are a couple of very good friends at work but then how do I decide who isn't quite a good enough friend in order to cut the day list?

always a very tough decision! our rule is that both of us have to know the person before they get invited, have some of them made an effort to get to know your OH and some not? Don't feel pressured to invite people just because they are part of the same group and might get upset, you could bring some wedding cake into work for everyone after the wedding for the people you didn't invite.0 -

Hi there, instead of the wedding breakfast, which was ridiculously expensive, we decided to have a late ceremony which is at 4.30pm and then drinks and canapes until 7pm where the rest of the guests are coming for a buffet and disco at the venue. We found this suited us much more and that it worked out really cheap. For the buffet it is costing £700 for 50 people and the room hire all day is free. The dj is going to be £150 so not bad really. Maybe this is a good option for you?
