    Hi guys

Haven't posted for a while, sorry. Finally set a date (well, a weekend) - the weekend of Sat 26th September 2010. I have a few questions though:

We are planning a registry office wedding - are the fees as low as it says on Manchester City Council webisite? ie £60 for notice of marriage then £43.50 for the wedding - do I not pay anything extra for the registrar if we're getting married there, is that just if they have to come to another licensed venue?

I have chosen my wedding music (Tom Baxter, either 'Better' or 'Light Me Up') - where can I play this? In the registry office? If so, when?

As it's over a year away, is it wise to send out simple Save the Date cards now? Or should I wait until I've actually booked the registry office?

And speaking of which, I know I can't sort out the notice of marriage until 12 months before but can I book the registry office yet?

Argh so many questions! Thanks xx

    Hi

When we were looking into a registry office, that was what we were quoted, we were told we could provisionally book the registry office to secure the date and time then once we were in the 12 month countdown we could pay, but we couldn't get a notice of marriage until 12 months before but it had to be 16 days before the date of marriage iyswim?

I'd ring them and provisionally book them. I get married in April next yr and sent my save the date magnets out this week, but i would wait until you have a confirmed date, just in case the dont have the date available you want and you have to ammend your STDC.

Our notices are £60 for both of us and then it's £295 for the registrar but we are not getting married in the registry office, I think it is about £40 if you want to get married in the registry office here though!

As far as I know you can have the music you want as long as there aren't any religious references in it, someone who knows more will be along soon I'm sure.

I would send the save the date cards when you have booked the registry office just to make sure you get that date. Tiger x

  • Woohoo!Just found out my niece is allowed to come to the wedding. So happy as there was some family tension and arguement with her Dad,my brother, and I really was worried she would not be able to be there but thankfully its all going to turn out just perferctly.I can go ahead and allocate rooms at the venue and do my final table plan now that I know she is coming. She will be a bridesmaid,my only bridesmaid, and dd is a flower girl.Having jewellery made for both of them to match mine.
She has chosen her outfit already after only 2 days, wish I was so decisive. Its a mink outfit from Next, does anyone know what colour this is.It looks silver in the picture online but I thought mink was a kind of taupe/biege?

Lillian1977 - As I understand it you can book the registry office provisionally more than 12 months ahead & they will hold it for a month after the 1st date you could give notice i.e.We booked the registrar provisionally for 3/4/2010 they would then expect us to attend & give notice before 3/5/2009 - hope this makes sense?
As for the fees, the £60 to register & give notice is set nationally, the registrar fees are set locally, but you may need to check if they have different levels of fees in York it was £40something for the ceremony & two witnesses then more for a room for about 40 guests then even more for a room for 80! They also have different fees for coming to venues, ours comes under East Riding & is almost £100 less than York! So it can be worth checking out if you're looking at venues.
We waited until we'd been to see the registrar & paid the venue deposit before sending save the date cards out - just because I wanted to be sure we got the date we wanted & didn't end up sending new ones! We just used the publisher programme on our laptop which has a postcard template & we were really happy with them. Am now working out what design we want on our invites!
    Congradulations!
