Right. The wedding is a week on Friday, and we leave for the UK on Sunday morning.

Dress - bought, arrived, altered, cleaned, pressed, currently hanging
    Shoes - yes, blue
Jewellery - yes, but I'm going to need to re-pierce my ears the morning of the wedding
Makeup - trial booked and the lady's booked for the day
Hair - theoretically, by dint of offering the hairdresser an ENORMOUS BRIBE to come out to us before she opens her shop. Includes trial
    Readings - sorted
Invitations - sent out and RSVPd to
    Reception - booked
Champagne - bought along with plastic glasses
Flowers - bought, arrived in UK, need to be checked
Cake - being made, needs to be delivered the day before
    Tux - yes
Shoes for tux - no. Hmm. Cheshire Oaks? Or his everyday boots?
    Photographer - yes
Evening dinner - yes, need to confirm final numbers and order wine
Brunch the next morning - just finished dealing with that over the phone
    Pay for everything - yes
Honeymoon - still no, but we're working on it
Wedding list - finally organised and people are buying from it!

OK, so honeymoon and evening dinner still to finish dealing with, and the rest is golden.
Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
    Three gifts left to buy
  • Well....This year has been the worst start to the year ever. Grooms dad died(unexpected) the groom then had a break down and called the wedding off and moved in with his mum. Then my grandpa died(expected) we knew it would happen soon but it was only 2 weeks after grooms dad so just another blow.

The grooms feeling loads better, is back home and the wedding is back on. We need to be sorting things out but neither of us feel like doing anything at all. My dress needs getting out of storage to let it air but every time i think about it, it seems "tainted" i know its silly and its prob just with everything going on.

Its just silly things like we will have to deside whats going to happen on the wedding day as the groom and groomsmen were going to be getting ready at his dads to help calm his nerves and now he thinks being there will be too upsetting. whos going to sit on the top table with him and his mum. Its just silly things that we both know dont really matter but keep poping up.

I guess i am just looking for advise as to how long i can leave doing things so we can start to feel "normal" as i dont want to miss dealines and then the day wouldnt be the idea we wanted.

Sorry dont mean to put a downer on things just needed to get things off my chest.

Good luck to all the brides getting married soon:j

Sorry to hear about all this, you've had a rough time of it. Maybe if neither of you feel like doing anything yet you need to leave it for longer? Everyone is different when it comes to grief so it's hard to say how long it might take to feel 'normal' (whatever that is! ).

One suggestion I have is just starting again from scratch, try not to dwell on how things were going to be but plan a new wedding around your current circumstances. I know that's easier said than done and there will still be sad moments but maybe doing things a bit differently will help? Doesn't have to be anything radical but think about going somewhere different to get ready, dispense with the top table (I went to a wedding where the bridal party sat at a round table in the middle of us all, easier for them to speak to each other too!).

You may have already booked and arranged things so changes may not be that easy but it also might help.

Take care of yourselves and don't rush anything, you need to be able to enjoy your day as well.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

hello fellow brides, this is my first post & by rights i should've joined up ages ago but never had the time unfortunately.

My Fiance and i are hoping to get married on the 14th may 2011, long way off i know but i'm so excited! Even though reading through all of your preparations its slightly stressing me out haha.
  • Hi everyone

Have just found this thread - wished I found it earlier to help with some planning.

Anyway I am getting married on 21st March 2009. Had a nightmare a week or so ago as had to find a new venue. The old one put their prices up loads and we felt ripped off. Got a great deal at a much nicer place so all turned out all right. Got a couple of grey hairs with the stress of last week though!

So we met with the new venue and the caterers last night. Having a traditional 3 course meal then in the evening we weren't sure about a buffet as didn't want loads of leftovers. The caterers suggested cheese and pate and french sticks with some fresh fruit. Apparantly this is really popular anything left over we can take home afterwards and I love cheese and pate so great all round!

Think I am pretty much finished with plans only a few bits and bobs to think about. Got my underwear (Bravissimo) and perfume (Marc Jacobs Daisy) at the weekend. Just need to do the table plan to display at the venue and the table names.

I'm sure there's more I've forgotton but still have 4 weeks to go!

    xx

PS should I be worried that only 3 items have been bought off our gift list? Details were sent out with the invites a couple of months ago
  • Woo, mine's tomorrow! Got everything sorted and am going to be heading over to the venue in the next couple of hours as we're staying over night. Very exciting, but it's weird because everything has been geared towards it, but it doesn't seem like as big a deal as I thought it would do! I guess the strange thing is that you don't really know how it's going to feel until you get to it so any expectation you have is likely to end up being wrong. Saying that though, I bet I'll be a right state in the morning, I'd love to surprise myself again and be totally calm. I am very very excited, it's going to be such a great day, we have everyone we want there, everything how we want it, and you don't get to do that often in life!

Well if afterwards I've learnt any new lessons or picked up any new tips along the way I'll be sure to let you all know!

  • Thanks for your reply MsChazzer. I think your right about starting with new ideas.

We have now booked our honeymoon which is great and managed to get £400 of saving on it.

We are going to the trafford center wedding show tomorrow to see if we can get any ideas for things we haven't already booked.

Good luck to *starla* hope the day goes well, look forward to seeing the pictures.:j

    Where are you going Deb?
  • Can I jump on the list too? My wedding is the 11th September 2009. Booked it last year and have got the dress, venue, dj, photographer and honeymoon all sorted. Got an idea for suits and bridesmaid dress and some other bits and pieces so not doing too bad!
