  • Just paid the cheque in for our clear out! It is galling that you get 30p for a lot of CDs but they have been sitting in my spare room for years so may as well get something for them. We found the process fairly straight-forward. The only scary bit was when the site seemed to crash after I had spent three hours inputting all the CDs. Fortunately when I went back in it had somehow automatically saved what I had input. After that, plain sailing. Had a courier pick up our packages at a time convenient to us. Took about ten days to get to the checking stage. Cheque arrived quickly after that. They gave us what they said they would. Its not a fortune but its quite a lot of money for clearing out the clutter. Have read a lot of negative press about MM but we found it very easy all in all and would use them again. Plus got cashback through quidco (although that's not been received yet!)
If you knew it then you know it!

Just had my cheque from Music Magpie, parcel collected at my house 31/01/2011 (I opted for their courier service as I had read here it worked faster) and the cheque arrived 23/02/2011, just over 3 weeks to complete the transaction. There is much debate here as to whether or not you are not paid enough by Music Magpie - of course, the prices they offer are far lower than what I paid back in the 80s and 90s when I bought the disks. However, I did MP3 everything before I sent it off to them and it wasn't a quick process, BUT, it has worked out in the end. It is also important to remember that you have had "usage" out of the item within the last twenty or so years so that has some bearing on the low price also.

    If..

    (1) you are able to encode your collection (relatively simple, albeit long process)
    (2) can live without the cases and covers
    (3) need to declutter desperately and satisfied with the massively reduced price they pay

then, I would say they are a 'relatively' quick and easy option.

Major NEGATIVE for me was the "automation" of it all, at no point in the process had something gone wrong do I feel I could have had personal contact with someone for free, as representatives are on a premium rate only number. This is poor, but fortunately this didnt happen, and it was a little "scary" but in the end it all worked out fine. So they get a thumbs up from me.

I did a clearout of our DVDs and games. Some stuff like the childrens DVDs that the kids had grown out of fetched surprisingly high prices. Sometimes I found that putting in a boxset barcode fetched surprisingly little, yet if the individual DVDs in the box set had their own barcode then the cost of each could be quite high - all for binning the boxset sleeve!

As to posting and payment - crap. My box took too long to arrive (or it probably arrived but they were slow to update) and the email with the timespan for payment wasn't kept. Would I use them again? Not really. Too much faffing around. If they can't keep their word on payment then I may as well give the stuff to charity.

  • Did another Music Magpie load the other month. Just under £100 for all our CD's. Moving out of flat, back to parents to save up to go travelling, so going from many rooms, back to just 1. So decided we didn't really need the CD's as we both have our itunes libraries and they're backed up. So got rid of the lot. Felt very satisfying I must say and then got £100 towards the travelling fund already. It's the DVD's next. Buying a big external hard drive to store them all on and then selling those, will let you know how much I get when I finally get the hard drive (saving up nectar points and amazon vouchers from survey websites at the moment to use to order it from amazon - cheapest place i found it).

Just doing this for a load of CDs and going to move onto DVDs to unclutter my room. I'm kinda new to this and never used this site before, do they send you a label to send all your CDs/DVDs? As I'm thinking I'll have about 50+ :S
  • They can send you the label,or you can print it out yourself with the link they give you :)

Cowboys! Been waiting a MONTH for them just to collect!!!! Cant even remember how many emails have gone back and forth after 4 arranged collection dates have gone past. Cant even find a phone number to actually speak to someone!:exclamati
  • Does anybody know which website Music Magpie subsequently sells people's CDs onto? I figure with the small amount of money that they over people, they may sell them just as cheap!
