    Very silly question coming up!

What is suet generally used for, apart from dumplings? Have some in the cupboard and no idea what to do with it. Did search but can't seem to see a specific suet thread.

It may go into sweet puddings too, eg spotted !!!!!! and jam roly poly. Oh, and in mincemeat too (as in the stuff which goes in Mince Pies). It's basically adding fat content. Mrs Beeton puts it in her bread pudding, but Delia doesn't and her recipe is nicer, IMO.

Help :o My home-made bread is going mouldy after 24hrs & I think the wooden bread bin may be the culprit. Would it be 'safe' to wipe it over with a mild bleach, lemon or vinegar solution & leave it to dry all day? I'm thinking of the odour transfer more than worry about taste.

A good rinse after claening will get rid of any odours.
Think possibly the bread bin is keeping the bread at the right temerature and moisture for the mould to grow in the first place.
In the summer if the kitchen is warm and the bread goes into the bin still slightly warm it will have the right conditions for the mould to grow. make sure the loaf is cool and dry as well as the bin and the bread should last longer.

Thanks for that aycore. The bin is as far away from any light or heat source as it can be & the bread is stoney cold before it gets put in there so I can't think why it should happen  I keep it dusted out & give it a damp cloth twice a week, so can only think something has got into the wood...

Can anyone help, please? I bought what I thought was the right stuff - butane gas - but when I try to get it into the lighter (used for lighting my gas hob) the gas just evaporates into ice crystals and a really nasty smell. Did I buy the wrong thing, or is there some trick to it I haven't worked out yet?

(On the plus side I feel really light-headed and cheerful now - perhaps not the best state when I've got to write a letter of complaint to my bank!)

I´m making some individual small coffee cups of Nigella´s chocolate mousse for our local fiesta. The mousse will finish about 1inch from the top of the cup.
Has anyone got any brilliant ideas on how or what I can use on top of the mousse to finish it off? The mousse is very rich. I thought about whipped cream, but I haven´t got a piping nozzle to make any posh swirly tops
I´d like something that had a ´wow´ factor if poss

Would little slithers of citrus peel work Sandy? I've seen it done with a potato peeler & it goes all curly like a little ringlet..lemon, lime, orange..mix of all or individual..matching ribbons around the cup &/or spoon handle
