Im using pre rolled pastry to make pies tonight, i know thats not bery OS but just making pies is a huge thing for me, i will make my own pastry at some point - baby steps and all that.
My question is, when I lie it out to cut it up what kind of flour do i need to use to stop it from sticking?
Many thanks

Either plain or SR would do fine, but if I had the choice I'd use plain.
Not one with bits in, that's for sure! So not wholemeal bread flour or anything like that.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I'm not sure there is a very easy way but I think it is the fat content that makes it really difficult. I think I would make sure I had removed as much as possible from the tubs with kitchen roll and then chuck them into a large bowl with lots of hot water and washing up liquid. The washing up liquid emulsifies the fat if I remember rightly but with 30 tubs you might need a lotwater on it's own won't cut it. Once the bubbles are gone you need new water and new washing up liquid in it
I would normally put a tub like that in the beginning of the washing up and leave it to soak, one in each washing up session would be less of a big deal than 30 at once- Defrost a few and thread some onto string to hang outdoors for birds and other assorted beasties?
- If you have a juicer you should be able to get at least something out of them
- Defrost, chop them up and put them in a pan with only a tiny bit of water. When thoroughly soft press the solids through a sieve with the back of a ladle to get a puree?
- As above but with lots of water and get "apple juice with bits"?
Thanks both! I'll chuck all the tubs in the wash today (...if there's room) and I think I'll try the puree. I would put them out for the birds but we're trying to get rid of them right now - cats, birds, slugs, our dog are all joining forces to kill each and every plant we put out.0 -
I want to make smoothies - jsut had my first one and loved it. How do you all make them and what do you use for it? Should I look under "blenders" or what ?0
-
Hi mardatha,
I use a stick blender to make them (you can get these for as little as £5 in most supermarkets. You can buy special smoothie makers but they're expensive and a pain to wash up afterwards.
This thread should help with different smoothie recipes:

Blahn - apple pips actually contain a small amount of cyanide in them, although in very minute quantities. I would be a bit reluctant though to process a hundred of them. Don't want to worry you but a hundred + sounds like a lot of pips:o

Hello, I'm new, I'm pretty sure this is the right place to be posting this, sorry if it's not! I wanted to try making this 'recipe' for homemade washing powder that I found: 4 cups of soapflakes, 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of soda crystals (2tablespoons of this mix for each washload), does anybody know whether this would be ok for sensitive skin or not?? I have a lil' nipper and use cloth nappies, so am keen to make sure that this mixture won't be too caustic (which is what my mum said...) I have only just ventured into the world of borax and soda crystals etc, so am still a bit clueless! many thanks!0

Hmm... I'm not sure about the borax but I pretty sure my soda crystals pack says to wash any skin after contact - NOPE I'm wrong. I've just checked my pack and it says:-Users with sensitive skin should avoid prolonged contact with highly concentrated solutions of the crystals
Oh, and they also say on the pack:-1 tablespoon (20g) to 1 pint of water is a mild solution.
And in your home mix you'd essentially be using 1 tablespoon to a whole wash which is going to be a few gallons (at eight pints each).Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
