weezl - really pleased to hear that fergus is fighting fit. thank you for sharing the news with all us lot!

when we had DD1 we knew she was going to be a girl, but for some reason or other decided to keep it a secret. why do people do that? it's a lot of hard work not letting the gender slip out in conversation, and of course everyone is fascinated trying to work out if it's going to be a boy or girl - purely because you're keeping it a secret!

with DD2 we told everyone it was going to be a girl. everyone knew her by name for months before she was born. some people say it takes away the excitement of the birth if you know the sex - but birth is quite eventful enough for my liking anyway!

made a bit of an error last night with defrosting dinner. Got a portion of bolognaise style mince out of the freezer. As we were eating DD1 was complaining about the amount of lentils in it (which she usually does - so I ignored her!) I told her it was from exactly the same batch as the spag bol we'd had last week, which she'd liked.

Suddenly it dawned on me - we were eating dahl with spaghetti! no wonder she couldn't see any mince in there! I didn't tell the kids - I just said that on second thoughts I think it was from a different batch. DH had worked it out before me, but he kept quiet too. It tasted ok - but better with rice!

Sort of thing I'd do :rotfl:
  • What is it with red lentils at the moment..........I blame this thread, every supermarket I go to, they are out of stock. That was never the case in the past, most people would pass them by.

    congrats weezl and AM!

my eldest is a boy and its great!

go for footless babygro's and then they don't grow out of them so fast! socks work well! (not very frugal, but baby gap socks stay on best !) i found h&m the best place for footless babygros, and reasonably priced, as i never found any at nct nearly new sales!

but i got loads of clothes from the nct sales, the baby stuff in particular is generally like new, and great value! they are a good place to find prams/pushchairs/and anything else you might want!

not a frugal night for me ... off out for dinner with friends!

Or do as I have, and chop off all the feet on their babygros as they get bigger. I'm on my last one, so it doesn't matter; last baby, that is.

OOOooooh that makes me sad, but I couldn't afford or cope with another!!
  • evening all...hello weezles! Almost a frugal day if it wasnt for having to replace my wing mirror after some oik thought it great fun to kick the other one off...£58 later...we did try & do a bodge job at the garage but I couldnt see the mirror so had to relent and cough up!
Just made a very frugal supper for mum and I. we got a chicken for 2.26 at asda whoopsied.(organic).chicken bones simmering, wings in the freezer and the rest in the curry which was made with various spices, onion, coconut (dessicated and a sachet of the creamed stuff) and added an extra tin of toms cos it needed it! Have now run out of toms so will have to remedy that as its a staple for me but will get lidl ones! Anyway freezer now happily fullish and two portions of chicken curry and rice to go in...made yummy mushroom rice by sweating onion and couple handfuls of mushrooms, oil, spices and rice when it was cooked...its yummy if I dont say so myself...couple of popadams and a glass of red and I'm happy although must do smaller portions as could only eat half...pudding will be hm ice cream (liquorice) and wafers while watching robson green at 9! We were debating the cinema but couldnt be bothered as quite happy here!! Am happy to put proper recipe up if people want it as aware the "add spices" could be one of many!! May do the limicello in a mo but first having a sit down as been on the go all day! Mum has also requested a lemon and ginger cordial so off to hunt a recipe...

Good evening! Hope everyone is doing well.

Managed to make another batch of the Dowerhouse chutney and have enough items to make another batch tomorrow morning. I must be doingsomething wrong as it takes literally hours for it to cook down, today it took nearly 4 hours! Oh well either way, DH thinks it is the best thing ever so it is also going to go in everyones xmas hamper as well.

Anyway, been a very stressful and long weekend. Think I am going to go off now and do a bit of telly watching and cross stitching. Take care all and hugs to those that wish them.

    Hello all,

Congratulations Weezl that Fergus is so healthy....never wanted to know what mine were before they were born...liked the anticipation and when I had strong feelings of what it baby was going to be I was wrong, so just gave up! Word of advice...buy nothing except 3 vests and 3 babygros...in my experience you get so many clothes as presents when a baby is born that you don't need to buy anything and have just wasted money if you have bought...I know that all the lovely baby clothes in shops are tempting but you can resist the temptation I know.

The very name Limoncello makes me gag....got VERY drunk on some homemade stuff in Sardinia about 5 years ago and haven't touched a drop since...so yes, it is lovely but go easy it can be very potent and you don't realise it until it is too late!

With those gems I will wish you all a good night
