lol re the spuds meals...
Munchki when I make the chutney I have it simmering on smallest ring and stir every 1/2 (with help of timer or Icome on here and forget!). Havent seen hamper thread but will peek...re the lemon cake I have made it as a loaf and as a square and round cake - the recipe is for round and if youre doing a loaf tin I would say cook longer and have heat a bit lower...also best to put the "sauce" on top after its cooled and is out of the pan as its very yummy and sticky!! Gorgeous and lemony and I tried a bit of a shop bought one today and it wasnt a patch on mine as not lemony enough!!
Laughed today when I took soup to w*** and it turned out to be what can only de decribed as defrosted gloop from weezls blins at the last end of challenge party!! caused much amusement!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
I'm hoping to have a go at the Dowagers Chutney tomorrow -- if I can get what I need from the shops.
I have the plums (20p/500g in Co-Op Whoopsie tonight), apples (thanks Dad) and onions. Also have the sugar, the salt and the garlic. I may have the raisins, but need to empty my baking cupboard to get to that sort of thing to check !! I know I can get fresh ginger in a local shop and getting vinegar locally isn't a problem, but I haven't a clue where I'm going to get chillies
The other problem is whether or not I've actually got enough jars for it once it's madeCheryl0 -

Quick Q about the Old Dowerhouse Chutney recipe. When it says 'shred' the apples, does that mean coarsely grate? Just wondering as the recipe says they're done in a food processor.Cheryl0

When I have made the chutney I have chopped up the apples in little cubes and the same with the onions. It seems to give it some texture and works quite well.
I hope that helps;)

Yep it is one of the Slimming world recipes.Basically you boil potatoes and mash them. Grease a tray and flatten mash, bake in oven until top is slightly crispy (you can use instant mash as well) add tomato base and topping of choice. It is so filling you can hardly move after.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

This sounds fab, thank you for sharing that! I have done something similar with those instant cheese and pasta packets... cooked it up, squished it down into a dish and added a kind of pizza topping to it. It sounds odd but it tastes good! The mash one is making my mouth water, I shall be adding that to this weeks meal plan I think!
Hope everyone is doing well - Weezl and the bump especially!

Evening one and all, hope all is well in Weezl land
Been a bit of a 'lurker' of late but promise to try and catch up a bit more often than I have been!
Had some fantastic news today, my cousin had her baby :j - a little boy. Not sure of all the gory details yet but no doubt will find out later when I ring mum. We won't be going up to see family until just before Xmas but hoping to get some piccies sent through ! We've got a huge family and are all very close so it's great to have a new member to cooe over !
(Must try not to get broody though ! lol)
I've had a really good week here - i've not been shopping :j !!! Might seem like a minor thing but payday was last Friday and ordinarily, I would have gone and done a weekly shop. But, I had a bit of a root around in the freezer and cupboards and thought I might be able to squeeze it out for another week (apart from milk and toilet roll lol). I didn't spend very much last month either (I kinda totalled it up, but not exact, to about £200).
So, plan is for this month, to try and cut food bill down even more. We've got MIL and FIL coming to stay but should be able to keep to a fairly frugal menu. I'm recording every penny I spend on food this month so I know exactly how much Mr T is getting out of me  ! Bit harder over the winter as we've not much 'produce' in the garden so having to buy veg now instead of picking it fresh.
Had roast pork tonight (will do for sandwiches tomorrow and another meal as well) - was from the butchers and although it was a bit more expensive, it didn't shrink and tasted wonderful ! All my meat this month has been from the butcher and TBH I don't think i'll buy it anywhere else now - even the price hasn't been that much different from the supermarkets.
Anyway, i've waffled enough (as usual !) - have a good evenin' everyone xx:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
evening all...in haste as pooped! Re the chutney I tend to shred the apples and onions in teh food processor - takes minutes and I prefer the texture as not wild about mega lumpy iykwim! Let us know how you get on - I have also used various types of vinegar with no real difference but do try to keep generally to the recipe (ish!!)...mainly because I flog it in work so people like to know what theyre getting!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
