Okay, after experimentation I think it is possible to make these even cheaper

    Cookies Millies Style

    Ingredients

    125g butter, softened-Willow 'Butter'- 30.5p
    225g caster sugar- 21p
1 egg, lightly beaten- Tesco Value- 9.7p
    1 tsp vanilla extract- 5pish
    225g self-raising flour- 6.5p
    ½ tsp salt- 1p?
4 Tesco value toffees, chopped into pieces- 3.5p

Eco total... 77.2p for about 20 medium sized cookies (slightly smaller than millies but good cookie size!)

4p each :) for toffee flavour, I just pressed 2 or 3 small pieces of toffee into the top of each cookie. I've also made some smarties ones but they won't be cheap, tasty though :)

    Aww, I wasn't quick enough was I ;)

Great bargains there, can't believe you spent so little

The vinyl bowls look fab and were only 25p each to make, took only 5 mins and would make a great gift for a music lover. The only down side is that apparently you should not put food in them so they wouldn't be much good as snack bowls but I reckon if you put wrapped sweets in them they would look really good.

Can highly recommend the cookie recipe, probably the easiest thing I have ever baked and they are delish and look so cute, would be ideal to wrap in little bags and give as little gifts or sell at craft fairs, mmm...

In true Weezl style I have analysed our toothpaste stash - well 3 tubes ;) - whilst I was upstairs.

The Asda Smart Price is 1000 parts per million of flouride

The Asda Essential Care is 1350 ppm flouride

    Aquafresh is 1100 ppm flouride

Guess it's Essential Care for us as we're not too keen on the taste of the Smart Price one. Hope this helps someone :o

    sunnygirl,

the dental officer came to my mum and baby group to talk about babies teeth etc and she told us to buy any tooth paste that's 1000 ppm fluoride for babies.

So fergie can have very frugal toothpaste! thanks for the research :)

  • Great minds think alike Sian. When we move I will have to home school my 15 yr old for a year. (We'll be in Mission, about an hour from Vancouver, I think Weezl asked ). After making the Millie's Cookies, and DS' mate putting in a request for 400, I have suggested to DS that we use them for a school project and sell them at the local farmers market. There are loads of ways they will fit with his curriculum and theyre so easy and nom I think theyre sure to sell.

morning potty and all who follow!

now I've been thinkin about ISOM's dowerhouse chutney and possible frugalising thereof:

    (makes 8lbs/3.6kg)

1 ½ lb/700g plums (preferably Victoria) weezl thought, aren't prunes dried plums? that'd be a quarter of the price.... wonder if I'd soak them first?
    8oz/225g red or green tomatoes
    8oz/225g onions
    1 ½ lb/700g cooking apples
1lb/450g stoned raisins (not THAT kind of stoned!!)
4oz/110g preserved ginger (or fresh grated if you haven’t any!) I'm going to use fresh grated, as I have it in
1/2oz/5g chillies Isom are these dried ones- cos there's another 5g of whole ones at the bottom?
    1 pint/570ml malt vinegar
1 1/2lbs/700g demerara sugar- I'll try it with white sugar
    1 ½ tablespoon cooking salt
1/2oz/5g whole chillies and same of garlic

    v Wash fruit
v Take plums, cut in half & chop into smallish pieces
v Same with tomatoes and place both in the pan
v Chop onion into smallish pieces (recipe says shred but this was too fine when I tried it!) & add to pan.
v Shred apples (cored but skins on), garlic & chillies (I do mine in a food processer) & add to pan – don’t leave too long as apples go brown
v Add the rest of the ingredients (salt, sugar & raisins) to the pan & bring to the boil & then simmer for 1 – 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. You do need to have this on a VERY low heat and do keep an eye out!

When cooked leave to cool and when you turn the gas off put the jars into the oven on low heat to sterilise. Fill with chutney, put a wax disk on top (waxy bit facing down) and put the lids on when warm. Jar lids will “pop” as they seal/cool but don’t worry if they do! Label when cold. Enjoy! This is especially yummy with ham and cheese!

I'll report back! This may be later in the week :)
