Also bought lemons... lots... was going to make lemon cordial yum! however.... I cannot get hold of citric acid... apparently there has been a run on citric acid because everyone is making elderflower cordial and the manufacturers cannot make it quick enough..... O.K... now to think what to do with my load of lemons........ :rotfl:
Do you live anywhere near a home brew shop ??
They should stock it, if your normal place doesn't have it.0 -
Somerfields have gammon on offer at half price hth0
-
Lidl have gammon steaks, smoked or unsmoked (2 in a pack) on offer at 90p - half price :money: - hurry though, as the offer is only on for a week and I bought mine on Saturday.
We have had these before, they are a good size and very nice - bought 6 packs to freeze."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

I have just made a batch of each.
The lentil pate, I made as per Weezl's original recipe, and its lovely
I think due to the increase in price, in products within the shops, the whole recipe cost me 77p to make.
The yellow split pea pate, I made slightly different... although I did follow Weezl's methodology
Split peas were soaked for about 10 hours. Instead of adding mixed herbs, I used cumin and paprika... just to produce a different flavour, ifykwim.
Also the peas did not require any breadcrumbs to be added, as the mix was quite dry... I had to add a little water (saved from the lentil water) to losen it up a bit.
The total cost for the yellow split pea pate was 54p :T
Taste wise...
The lentil pate is lush... a smoother pate.
The yellow split pea pate, is also very tasty... but has a nuttier texture.
I deffo will be making both again. :j
Many thanks for the idea
Potty
PS... tonights tea should have been stirfry...
But its a little of each pate, spinach salad and warmed pitta breads
The rest of the pate is going in the freezer.0 -

we don't unfortunatley... but I will be keeping an eye out now and grabbing some to store when I can!
Found a recipe to make cordial without citric acid - just lemons, sugar and a little water so currently have my mix cooling and will bottle shortly0 -
Popped into Aldi today and was most impressed with the fruit offers. Got punnets of cherries, peaches, plums for 49p each and they're a decent size. Also got a pineapple for 49p. Definitely worth a look. None of the veg offers aprticularly stood out for me- they have a reasonably good size pack of tomatoes for 49p, but I'm not keen on fresh tomatoes at this time of year as they tend to be a bit anaemic- I prefer tinned until summer.
Cooking up a big batch of bolognese (with plenty of lentils and grated carrot) tonight. Will make a pasta bake tonight and freeze a few portions.
Also have some baby beetroot from the in-laws garden. Roasting them tonight then will turn into risotto tomorrow night. OH won't eat it, but as I have lots of parmesan due to a leaving-shopping-at-work-baby-brain incident (had to buy replicas of a few items)it is the perfect yummy thing to make. In-laws may be a pain but their garden has given us some real yummies this week- beetroot, new potatoes, spring onions and baby carrots. Thanks Weezl. Does cooking kill toxo-plasmosis? Either way they were well scrubbed by OH and I have peeled the beetroot so should be ok. I am quite paranoid about my own garden though as we have tons of lurking cats!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0
