Mmm, soup night sounds good, I think it is all about the dunkable alongside :) Naans sound amazing and I know that in the US they often have soup and toasted sandwiches, mmmm

Weezl I had a thought (whilst eating a mini treacle tart) have you tried jam tarts for AM's snacks? Would have thought they would be fairly economical and a sweet pastry shouldn't be too hard to make and they look so darned cute! You may have done this already though and my idea might have just been me stealing yours and hiding it in the back of my mind to bring it out now... ;)

My mother always served gammon with parsley sauce but with mash. SHe was from Yorkshire originally but I grew up in wales, I always thought thats how everyone ate it!!!! I still serve parsley sauce now but I'm not THAT keen on it

Asda do a really nice Onion & Chive packet sauce mix that I always serve with gammon. I think they're on offer at the moment at £1 for 4.

I'd never heard of approved foods either - I'll have to look into it. It sounds like something the Ministry of Food would have sponsored in during the war!

  • Hi SunnyGirl,
I love gammon, new potatoes and hm onion sauce but must confess to being Yorkshire born :p.
Bought half price smoked gammon joint in Som yesterday on offer this week. 1.2kg was £11 offer £5
. Big enough to cut thickish slices to grill with chips and pineapple, and still have enough to roast to eat sliced with onion sauce, or cold in sandwiches.
I always just bung in multicooker as it is and roast/bake it until nicely browned on outside and yummy scrummy, keeps, wrapped in foil in fridge for a week easily if it lasts that long.icon7.gif

Help! I bought a celeriac on monday to use in a recipe I had seen that sounded nice.... but now... I can't find the recipe.....

any thoughts on how I can best use it? I was thinking of a stew type dish for some of it and then use the rest to make celeriac and potato mash?

It must be a Yorkshire thing as both my parents originally hailed from Leeds ;) I do similar with gammon joints, we have them hot for a Sunday lunch, then into steaks for a midweek tea then sandwiches if there's any left :rotfl:

That is just the recipe I bought the celeriac for!!!!! :rotfl:should have guessed it came from this thread!! Don't have any spinach growing in the garden and the chard isn't ready to pick yet.... mmhh is it too late to pick nettles? could I mix with the tops of peas maybe?

Also bought lemons... lots... was going to make lemon cordial yum! however.... I cannot get hold of citric acid... apparently there has been a run on citric acid because everyone is making elderflower cordial and the manufacturers cannot make it quick enough..... O.K... now to think what to do with my load of lemons........ :rotfl:

to quote and answer myself partly...... :rotfl: I did freeze some of the spinach/chard from the garden so I could use that and add some nettles/pea tips in to make the weight up :T ok.. that is tea sorted for sat eve!
