I used to normally buy quiche...at whatever the price was
And when I started looking on this forum, I started to make quiche, and found it tasted much better
I have just done a little bit of number crunching from the quiches that I made earlier...
And here are my findings
:mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::eek::eek: I can not believe how much profit the shops make from this stuff
:oSorry... rant over.... Costings from my earlier quiche as follows...
I have to say, I ended up only making the salmon, spinach and tomatoe one, as there was way tooooo much salmon in the pack to make just one quiche.....It was enough for two
Happy days.
Reduced price pastry 10p ...................... ..enough for 2 quiche
Tesco value smoked salmon trimmings 88p ...enough for 2 quiche
Spinach 25p...........................................enough for 2 quiche
8 eggs 1.34 (free range from the chicken lady) " " 2 quiche
Salt and pepper 1p
I was gonna add tarragon at 1p... but forgot
Tomatoes 25p
Total cost 2.83...
I got 12 portions out of the two quiches ... so about 24p a portion.
I am very impressed...as I didn't realise the costing before
Thanks to all.

Thought I would pop in to say that brownies were a resounding success, eaten warm with a dollop of my home made ice cream and a sprinkling of grated chocolate! Only tweak was that I didn't have a square tin so did it in two loaf tins instead, twas very easy and tasty so thanks WeezlGod is good, all the time

I will try both, side by side, soon, and see which is better, taste, wise and financially wise0 -

Somebody asked what to do with Unsalted peanuts.
Well years ago, when my kids were little I used to make Peanut Butter out of it. It would store in jars in the fridge.
All you need is a blender and Veg Oil. Chop the nuts up, in the blender, and slowly add veg oil, until it comes to the consistency you like. I used to make smooth peanut butter, but thats only cos kids didnt like lumps!
Must admit its years since I did it. But they are in thier 20's now!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
fedupandskint did you make the potato and spinach curry yet? we had it last night and it was delish! Even doubtful DD1 liked it (although I did try my reverse psychology on her - "you won't like it" )
We sprinkled a little chopped fresh coriander on it and some grated cheese. I thought I'd made too much and was going to freeze the leftovers - but DH polished it all off. I didn't mind, cos I was worried they wouldn't like it.weaving through the chaos...0 -

They weren't too squidgy but I did end up using SR flour, was that right? I think maybe a little less flour and a little more sugar would make it a more chewy texture but I really liked it and have had compliments at work today (took one loaf tin worth in so I wasn't tempted to eat it all!)God is good, all the time

Hi everyone hope we're all having a good day?
I've been food shopping and am quietly hopeful I'll come in under the new budget this month too *fingers crossed & frugal cooking being done*I have got some more red lentils today as I'm going to make the lentil pate - finally! I think that DH & I will like it as a dip with carrot sticks etc.
What's for tea tonight? It was a great idea yesterday it's amazing how you gain ideas from seeing what others are having. We're having sweet & sour chicken with egg noodles. I bought the Asda smart price jars of sauce & I'll only use 2 chicken breasts between us all and pad it out with the usual array of veggies & a tin of pineapple pieces :rotfl: It works out cheaper to buy the jars than making enough quantity of my own sauce0 -
for tea tonight we are having frozen bolognese sauce and value spaghetti!
i know the sauce has added lentils and oats in, but no idea what else!!i have a tub of tomato and veg (bottom of the fridge) sauce in the fridge, so might add some of that to it, it doesn't look very tomatoey to me !!
we often have the 'bottom of the fridge' sauce as soup! i add a bit of water ( or stock, although have taken to keeping water from cooking veggies to add to it !!!) and sometimes a bit of left over pasta or rice! yum!0
