The spinach and potato curry looks fab, and very easy to make...
On my ever growing list of things to try
Thanks0 -
Whilst I was shopping the other day, I noticed the difference in the price between red lentils and the other colours of lentils... 5p per 100g in some cases... ...
I wondered if anyone has tried to make lentil pate, with lentils other than the red ones, and if so, how was it ??
Many thanks in advance

morning all!
recipes involving corned beef would be most welcomed! I have made a corned beef pie in a 2lb loaf tin, used it in a tomatoey pasta sauce, made tarts... and that's only 1/3rd of the tin gone! Costco bulk buys eh?!:D

when we were kids my mum used to make what we called corned beef hash it was basically corned beef mixed with bake beans then topped with mash potatoes and a bit of cheese its really tasty.
you can use this mix in individual pasties as well
if you have a meat slicer you could just slice it and freeze it0 -
Here in Lancashire they make corned beef hash by cooking chopped potatoes, carrots & onion in stock then adding cubed corned beef for the last 10 mins. It may sound pretty disgusting but with added pearl barley, seasoning and a spoon of mustard it's really yummy. It's traditionally served with pickled red cabbage although I don't as I hate the stuff
My Mum used to make pasties with corned beef too. Boil potatoes, carrot & onion then mix with corned beef and put into circles of pastry. Fold over, crimp the edges, wash with egg/milk & bake until pastry is cooked. It was my favourite tea with tomatoe sauce and baked beans
Editted to add: How did you get on with the weaning chat at your Mum's group yesterday? It sounds complicated at first but you soon get into the swing of it - honest!0 -

At the risk of sounding like a Mrs M advert. Page one of the grocery challenge has Mrs M's corned beef hash. It uses veg, dumplings and marrowfat peas so should be quite frugal prolly get 6 servings out of a normal tin. I think I prefer the mashed into potato mash version personally, but Mrs M's makes a nice pie. linky
LOL just noticed the original post is on this thread somewhere :-D Thanks for the link instructions weezl, that's my first attempt and I am so proud I feel like a proper nerd now, my son would be so proud (not).Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
thanks for all the excellent corned beef ideas. I'd also love to make a meat loaf, perhaps by adding some liver or kidneys, onions etc.... any thoughts?

Googling around, sauerkraut, cheese and mustard seem to be the classic additions with corned beef. Was wondering if you could do a home pickle of cabbage and then mix that through. I can see how it might work as I like pickled cabbage (the red stuff) with normal corned beef hash :-S. Maybe some kind of mustard sauce with your meatloaf. I think giant mustards in costco are quite cheap too ;-)Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0
