I think I am going to have quiche, salad and some HM potatoe salad

Not made the salmon/spinach one yet . I got sidetracked the other night before I got a chance to do it :o

I have 2 packets of shortcrust pastry mix (that I got reduced to 10p)
So will use one of those :D
I got some cheese reduced to 38p... so will make a cheese and onion quiche too. :D

I went to Tesco's and bought some Lentils to make the pate...
The difference in price between the lentils and yellow split peas is shocking
    Red lentils per kg.......... 1.76
Yellow split peas per kg ....90p

So, I thought I would make up a batch of each, and see what the taste difference is :D

I had some smoked river cobbler in the fridge yesterday and I roasted it in the oven (in a baco bag from when they were 1p for 2 in Mr T's) with some pepper and a large glug of cava left over from Sunday tea. I then made a white sauce (normally goes lumpy so I was very proud) and cooked in some broccolli and mushrooms and served with pasta, the fish was delish, tasty and firm and quite cheap actually. I have another portion in the fridge waiting for me :)

Is it possible to use something cheaper as an egg substitute for things like brownies? My brother is dairy allergic and I can remember my mum making a cake with oil instead but it wasn't easy to slice as it was a very soft texture though it tasted great! I love brownies and they can cope with other things being added too (like ice cream... no, I mean fruit and healthy things... or ice cream...)

weezl's 3.7p per brownie, chocolate and date brownies

Pour 100ml boiling water over 100g chopped dates and leave to soak for 30 minutes.

1.Preheat the oven to 180C/gas 4. Lightly grease a large square baking tin. Melt the 150g of butter and 150g chocolate together in a bowl placed over a pan of gently simmering water.

    3. Whip 3 eggs, 200g sugar together, until smooth before folding in 200g flour.

    4. Stir in the chocolate mixture and beat with a spatula until smooth.

    5. Add the dates and the soaking liquid.

    6. Pour this batter into the prepared tin and bake for 20 minutes, until the top is firm but the brownie is still moist on the inside. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin.

I think I should've cooked them for a little less time for more gooeyness, but DH is still very happy with the outcome!

NB 3.7p assumes smartprice dark choc, willow butter and HB dates! :)

why have I never seen this fish you're all on about?

Potato & lentil curry for us tonight, v cheap and v tasty, even if I am using Patak curry paste! Found that the cheapest/easiest way to make nice curry. Always tempted to make Curry Queens curry but takes a bit of forward planning which I haven't managed to get round to yet, so Pataks paste it is!

We're having good old faithful spaghetti bolognese tonight :D I've used 500g of minced beef and added 2 onions, 4 grated carrots, 2 grated courgettes, 2 chopped peppers & a good handful of mushrooms so I'm hoping that it'll do 8 portions. 6 for us tonight and 2 for the freezer or 4 if the leftovers get put on baked potatoes with grated cheese ;) I'm glad I made it this morning as I've spent all afternoon in DS2 & 3's bedroom clearing it out    They are mucky little pups!

    Hi Guys

brownies sound lush weezl i bet they are really low in calories as well as cost:rotfl::rotfl:

Theres a nice curry on the SW site its meant to be a tikka masala but isn't really but its very nice i have tweaked slightly

    fat free curry sauce

    6garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
1 tsp cardamom seeds, crushed(use seeds only)
    1 tsp ground turmeric
    2 tbsp ground coriander
2 tsp each ground ginger and cumin
    1 tsp chilli powder
    2 level tbsp tomato puree
2 onion, peeled and grated(i blend everthing in the blender)
    500ml water

200g very low fat natural fromage frais
    2 tbsp freshly chopped coriander
    2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Basically cook all but the last 3 ingredients together until the onion is cooked

Add the veg/meat etc and cook to liking then at the last minute stir in the remainig 3 ingredients

Very nice and frugal if you already have the spices Fat free fromage frais is really cheap at Mr M big tub for 42p for 500g makes enough sauce for 3-4 people

Got some dark choc left from christmas and lots of unsalted peanuts that am looking to use up any ideas ??

hope fergus is ok after his jabs weezl - was it his first lot of them?

those brownies sound fab, another recipe to note down (and hopefully not lose)

got some whoopsied naan breads at Mr T's so decided to cook fedupandskint's spinach and potato curry for dinner. DD2 helped me cook it so hopefully she'll eat it. DD1 prob wont like it but she will eat the naan bread, so she wont starve!
