I've costed out the cheese flan just for my own benefit really but thought I'd post it any way.
1/2 a double pack Jus Rol puff pastry 83p
250g Cheese 99p
2 Onions 10p
2 Eggs 24p
Pinch mixed herbs 1p ?
Salt & Pepper 2p ?
Total per flan £2.19 It feeds the 6 of us for our evening meal with 2 portions left for later so 8 servings in all = 27p per serving :T
I'm serving with HM wedges and baked beans tonight.
that does sound really frugal especially with not having to make the pastry, tricky for me now there's a fergus!
Going to a mum's group to discuss weaning etc now....
wish me luck!

wraps are easy to make , if you look at the beginning of the grocery challenge thread there is a list of recipes one of which is Mrs Mcawbers wraps. Theyre super simple to do, but a bit of a b*gger to roll, good for the arm muscles iyswim :-). We love them here and have them often.
We also often have those puff pastry tarts, though they tend to be a bit "fridge bottom" or contain a handful of frozen peppers or somesuch thing. You can also get away with a splash of milk or a bit of on the turn cream if you want too. It will stretch the egg, if its a bit runny just fold up the scored edges a bit to hold it in til it puffs. Currently super frugal as I still have 2 of the puff pastry mixes from when Mr T had them super reduced to 13p. Might be worth looking to see if the mix is still available/cheaper, is a smaller quantity but more than enough for 4 people.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -

I make samosa like pasties with puff pastry...
Dry roast some cumin seeds (and a few corriander seeds too if you have them) then crush them in a mortar and pestle (or with the back of a spoon in a bowl)
Saute some potatoes and carrots then add the cumin and corriander and some ground cumin and curry powder. Mix in some peas at the last moment.
Roll out the pastry and pot a dolop of mix in and fold the pastry over the top to make a pastie and pop in the oven until cooked (depends on the size of pastie).
Sorry I can't be more precise - I never do it exactly the same way twice! :rotfl:
Hmmmm I might make this for tea tomorrow... I managed to get a couple of reduced packs of puff pastry at the weekend which are safely stashed in my freezer!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Spinach and potato curry for me today using up a couple of bunches of spinach.
ooh, how did you make that? (even just a rough recipe would be great) I have a big bag of spuds that's starting to sprout and lots of spinach in the garden - so it sounds a perfect combinationweaving through the chaos...0 -

I've made several batches of these now and they're fab - much nicer than shop brought ones (isn't that always the way).
I dry fry mine in a griddle pan but the flour does tend to burn quick so be ready with them all rolled out and maybe have someone on hand to flap like a loon in front of the smoke alarm, if like mine it likes to go off at the meerest hint of cooking."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. I think I got the recipe off here somewhere so apologies to whose recipe it is! I wrote it in my notebook with no note of where it came from and I can't take the credit for it!
Spinach and Potato curry
250g potatoes chopped into 1/2" cubes
200g fresh spinach washed and chopped
1 tin tomatoes
1 tbsp oil
1/2tsp -1tsp cumin powder
1/2tsp - 1tsp coriander powder
1 sm chilli chopped finely
1/2 stock cube serves 4
Heat the oil in a large pan, add the chilli and spices and fry for a minute or so.
Add the potatoes, tomatoes 1/2 stock cube and mix well. Cover and simmer for 15mins or until the potatoes are almost cooked.
Add the spinach to the pan, stir and cover and cook for about 5mins until the spinach has wilted and the potato is cooked.
I haven't made this yet but it is on my list for tomorrow's tea. I think I'll add an onion and check to see if anymore liquid is needed in which case I'll dilute the stock cube in some water and add it this way. Either way looks cheap and easy and I'll have it with HM chapatis made from the recipe on the side of the chapati flour packet
