i did a lentil loaf on this thread somewhere will look for it it would work too
Shaz
can't find it and i know there were pics
but have the recipe here
LENTIL AND CIDER LOAF
175g (6oz) Split Red Lentils
400ml (3/4 pint) Cider
1 Large Onion, peeled and chopped
1 Carrot chopped
1 Stick of Celery, chopped
1 Garlic Clove, peeled and crushed
25g (1oz) Butter
50g (2oz) Cheese, grated
1 Tablespoon Fresh Parsley, chopped
1 Egg
Put the lentils and cider into a saucepan and bring to the boil; turn the heat down, half-cover the saucepan and leave to simmer over a fairly low heat for 20 minutes, until the lentils are tender and all the water absorbed.
When the lentils are nearly cooked, set the oven to 180oC (350oF), gas mark 4. Prepare a 450g (1lb) loaf
Next, fry the onion, carrot, celery and garlic in the butter for 10 minutes, until they are softened and lightly browned. Add the fried vegetables to the lentils, together with the cheese, parsley and egg. Mix everything together thoroughly and add salt and pepper to taste.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin, smooth over the surface and cover with a piece of foil. Bake the loaf in the pre-heated oven for 1 hour, then remove the foil and cook for a further 10 – 15 minutes, uncovered if necessary, to brown the top.

I use value washing powder (usually Tesco's).. I use max 1 tblsp of powder per wash for dirty items (as in gardening clothes/kids school clothes or covered in dirt clothes) and for clothes worn 2-3 times before washing but not 'dirty' I use about 1/2 tblsp.. everything comes clean!
I do wash whites at 60 but everything else at 30 (lowest temp my mach does), the only stains I struggle with a orange stains but I found those a problem with other detergents so try and soak/pre-treat before washing and hang in sun. I get no white streaks left.
I think the box I just started will last til Christmas!!! Will try reducing it, thanks Yategirl.:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

Hi all,
Just been reviewing last months food spends. It's not looking good :rotfl:
I wonder what you all think is a reasonable add on for guests? I definately don't think I can include it in our budget, we fed people other than us 38 meals over the last month!
Grateful for any thoughts!

I think you should just write it off, rejig the budget and start afresh...life stressful enough with a baby and all that goes with it (ie entertaining guests constantly) without stressing over what is already a very frugal budget...

Dont worry shaz I havent got babas either! apperently cats dont count! Will def try the costco cat food! Weezl fancy an adventure!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

yep, just trying to rejig the old budget now, I wondered what amount people thought I should allow for guests?

I think I've been OS'ing too long now..... last night we had spag bol made with pure unadultered MEAT, no lentils, no soya mince, no stuffing mix! :eek:How decandant, trouble was I didn't like it! Too meaty for my liking since I've been 'cutting' my mince with other stuff I'm practically veggie!
OH prefers it that way tho! It was just laziness on my part that led to pure meat (oh the scandal of it!) and I don't think I'll be repeating it in a hurry!:A

Hey Weezl, do you feed your guests what you feed yourself or do you have 'special' meals? If the same then I would go for 50p for an evening meal extra at least. £1 for a day as that is what you are each on and they will be adding to your household budget too (unless you make them bring their own loo roll!)
If you have special meals I would ignore them entirely! He he
(Anyone else a little sad that Martin is on honeymoon? Can't escape the thought that I missed out there)
