Sorry if i've missed it but have you worked out a "per use" costing for this - I'd be interested to see what it's like.

I use the value powder either from Mr T or Mr M - I dump it into a large container with a whole pack of soda crystals and can say it works a treat.

If I'm doing 3 loads of washing in a day then I never put powder in on the 3rd wash....my dad (a former washing machine engineer) has always sworn there's plenty of soap residue left to get a 3rd load clean....I tend not to include anything that's heavily soiled but am yet to be disappointed by the results.

I rekon about a quid for the stuff if you use value bath soap and it makes a huge bucket full(B&Q orange one ) must be at least 50 washes but never counted it

Our wilkinson sell the boxes of borax for about 90p and you use just under half as i recall

The turkey loaf was so nice theres no leftovers

This is a great thread and does what it says on the tin :)

Well done on the loss Shaz, especially with the yummy sounding 'loaf', might have to try that, have to admit I have never considered turkey mince.
Hope all is well with everyone

Shaz, that recipe looks great, have made a note of it to make it in the future :D

Had some of the super hot red lentil dahl for tea and cooled it down by mixing it with a small pot of yoghurt making it v. nice indeed :D

Made the onion bahjis also but only managed one and had to cook it for a longer time than the recipe says. Quite nice, may have overdone the amount of buckwheat flour and next time use less than the 5tbs stated.

Frugally going on well and I have taken note of the washing powder/gloop story. When my Mr Sainsbugs own label non bio liquid runs out I will have a mosy in Costco to look for a lg box/bottle of non bio and may also have a go at the home made mix too.

Thanks for all the tips :A very helpful :D

I was reccommended on the grocery challenge thread to have a look at Costco's washing powder. They do a 400 wash box for £11 apparently :D I'll check it out if we ever decide to get a card. It worries me though as I'm sure that I could spend the whole months budget in one trip whilst telling myself I'm spending money to save money  Not something that works terribly well for me really. Oh well I'll contemplate it whilst I'm ironing which is the wonderful job that beckons tonight. At least it's cool enough to do it :D

    thanks SG,

That's 2.74p per wash, so roughly the same as asda smartprice, and if I buy it now I secure a whole years worth of laundry at todays prices

    Happy ironing, Love weezl x

ps Sunnygirl I was just looking at your impressive sig, well done on the grocery challenge last month :T:T:T:T.

One leeeeetle suggestion, which perhaps you already do, have you looked into homemade catfood? I read a few blogs about how to get the nutrition balance right, and I reckon it'd be half the price at least of the tins. I have no cats, but willing to do a bit of geeky maths on the cat nutrition and costs if anyone would like?
