Don't know if anyone is interested, but I thought you might like to know about the chinese takeaway containers they sell at around 10p each (depending on size). They are freezer and microwave proof and stack nicely. I have used old takeaway containers in my cupboards for years, it easy to see what is in them and I freeze stuff in them too
Have now got 2 large boxes of them in the living room - only hope I can sell some of this food! If not, I have enough boxes to last me a very long time!!

They look perfect for batch cooking and freezing. Do you think they would be reusable ie will I be able to wash them and use them again and again?MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Gadget! Gadget! Did someone say Gadget?
(Another gadget gatherer here, though I must admit far too many of them are gathering dust in one place or another around the house  )
Well - you could feel positively virtuous if you saw my kitchen - and my understairs cupboard -and my loft.....
- raw food style processor (not used yet) --er....cough....more than £300...I will use it honest your honour!
- breadmachine - errr...I'm still making it by hand (er...cough...most expensive one there is)
- mandoline....err...still in wrapping
- dehydrator....well....I do use it occasionally.
- juicer....errrr........
My defence is that I will get my money's worth from these gadgets when I retire and have loadsa time (soon - even sooner if my employer has any sense...I doubt that!) - hence why I got them.....
EDIT; in my defence - I DONT have: car, dishwasher, microwave, tv, video.0 -
Ladies (and gents of course !)
I'd like to pick your brains if I may??
After hunting high and low for my slow cooker (we moved house last year and I thought it got put in the loft or something stupid like that !) - hubby kindly reminded me (he often has to do that !) that it broke and we got rid of it (I think I was a bit zombified during and after the house move lol).
So, what would you recommend? It has to be a biggie (5 of us) and fairly good quality (don't mind paying a bit extra if it's going to last and be a good one).
Would rather buy one that is recommended.

Well I'll have to be following this thread more closely from now on as theres been a death in the family. My washing machine has gone to the great washing machine heaven in the skies  .How come they always pack in with a full load half washed and full of water?
I'm determined to buy a decent one this time with an extended warranty so need to tighten my belt even more to pay for it:eek:
Mrs M i'd love one but unfortunately with 4 kids a washer is more important:mad:
Dont think I've quite got to the cooking a pigs head stage yet :rotfl:

CERIDWEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you shocker!!!
What about ebay for slow cooker? loads there..sorry did linky for pressure cooker but theres loads of both!! what about freecycle or car boots too as theyre the sort of thing that people get and dont use...
ps I can say with absolute certainty that I will never get to the pigs head stage - just having it in the car made me want to chuck....Fergus must be a strong baba as he's so far survived pigs brains and my rather strong cocktails (wouldnt have done them that strong had I known!!)...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Cerwiden - I used to have a dehydrator in the US, have never found them here. Would love to have one again as they do make the best beef jerky! nomnomnom
ISOM - The batch made like 8 or so jars of chutney so should keep him going for a little while.....I hope! Not as thick as I thought it might be but he loves it all the same!
Still have about 75 jars here so will maybe make some more or maybe some camelised onion chutney as I know he likes that as well.I am somebody. I am me. I like being me. And I need nobody to make me somebody! Louis L'Amour0 -

yes def reusable, that is one of the reasons I decided on them. I have used my old chinese takeaway boxes for many years before they fall to pieces.
I intend to encourage people to bring them back to the shop so we can reuse them0
