  • Hi All,
Long time lurker here, Just thought i'd say i'd love a gadet like MrsMc:rolleyes: but can't afford that, as my gearbox has just packed up on my car:o and its gonna cost £400 to repair:eek: so have decided it might new to look for another car:eek:

Anyway, i thought i would google alternatives to bottling methods, maybe using a pressure cooker. The first site on google is a MSE page:T about bottling using a pressure cooker:j.

Here is a link to the page I hope as i have never done a link before

I might give this a go and see what happens.

Thankyou for the info and the link for bottling fruit ladyroughneck,

i was wondering if anyone knows if this method of bottling in the pressure cooker can be used to preserve soups?

I make quite a bit of soup and rather than buy cans for winter in case of power cuts i would much rather save my own without using up lots of space in the freezer.
    Has anyone tried this?

What an idea :T Come autumn/winter hubby takes HM soup n hm bread nearly every day.. so I make big batches -but it takes up so much bloomin room in the freezer  I will have to look into that ;) ....
Out here you see just about everything in jars... including brussel sprouts  Now I love brussels -but can't imagine them in jars :rotfl: ... the hardest thing to get hold of in a bottle out here -is pickled onions believe it or not  ...
hmm -scuttling off to look that up now :p

Lol i hope it`s doable, i need to get my pressure cooker book out and check the pounds pressure for the settings, also my new one dosen`t have a proper trivet like the old one did so i need to find something else to use instead.

Fingers and toes all crossed :D

  • Morning weezilites....dont worry c was only joking - we all have to manage our own budgets but the point I was making was that we're meant to be being more frugal!! Have decided to make liquorice ice cream so will do merange for pudding on sunday to use the egg whites and will save aple crumble for a later date...also hard to transport without a n other in the car! Todays plan is go slow but try and blitz the plot and do a measured amount of listed shopping!! Need some fabric for class but will try and get off cuts and do some haggling!!

I have just looked in my little instruction booklet and it lists goulash..so surely soup is just like goulash :j ...Think I may have to keep an eye out for a book of ideas...apparently I can also bottle sausages :rotfl: ... hmm don't think i will be doing that ;)

On the "frugal" topic... I don't think I have been particularly "good" on that front this week  -but I think sometimes its a case of spending money to save more money in the long run.... did that sound convincing? :rotfl:

Ohh Mrs M - lol i`ll be searching for my booklet when i get home from w*rk,
I shall have quite a bit of stuff to do the week after next when we are back from hols and i will need to get cracking straight away.
If the sausages are the big frankfurter ones i`ll bet they are lovely bottled but i can`t imagine ordinary sausages in bottles.:D

  • re - sausage meat, i always buy the slices from iceland 15 for £1, these are not great cooked up on their own but i defrost them and wrap them around boiled eggs, coat with breadcrumbs mixed with cajun spice and oven cook, delicious scotch eggs for lunches snacks, and definatly cheaper than shop bought ones

My potato peelings came out rather lush..even tho I do say so myself :D Put them in the top of a hot oven for about 10mins, & IMO they were not disimilar to a well-known brand of crispy snacks...whose trade name sounds remarkably like a kitchen impliment used to boil water for a cuppa :D I'm quite pleased to think I've saved some more stuff from the bin....wonder if you can use parsnip & carrot peelings  ...that could be my next venture, but at the moment I'm storing up me peelings to make a veg stock.
