  • Dont think I could do it but maybe will have my personal go! what are you including? things like toilet rolls, powder etc or purely food?
  • Hi

I'll join in with this! I couldn't spend just £30 on the two of us if I had no food in the house, but my cupboards and freezer are quite well stocked just now, so we might be able to manage just spending £30 on milk, fruit, veg etc... A good challenge to clear out some space (and save some cash) for Christmas! :)

I made chilli in the slow cooker last night so now have 11 chilli meals ready in the freezer... looks like chilli will be featuring heavily in my meal plans for next month...

I'm also away on holiday for a week - cheating a bit! But count me in!

Cerwiden - I used to have a dehydrator in the US, have never found them here. Would love to have one again as they do make the best beef jerky! nomnomnom

The dehydrator is a Stockli one - I have a vague idea I might actually have spotted a dehydrator available from Lakeland recently - cant be sure on that...just remember gulping as I think it was about £40 odd price mark - errrr....mine was over £100! I got mine via the type of contact lists they do in raw food magazines/websites - as they are frequently used in raw food "cooking". It came from some British supplier or other by post.

    You could try:

    www.livingfoods.co.uk

    www.fresh-network.com

somewhere or other on one or both of those links you will hopefully find a dehydrator for sale. The first one certainly sells some goods. The second is THE magazine for raw fooders in U.K.

EDIT; Just seen the dehydrator mentioned by Shaz - errr....pass the sickbag anyone - at the thought of how much more I paid for mine! Agghh! Now THAT is a seriously good price for one......<insert weeping smilie here>

Last night I made stuffed marrow - well marrow in mince and tomato sauce - marrow from the allotment and the mince was in the freezer, I boiled it for 10 minutes on the stove before putting it in the slow cooker.

Tonight I'm making pizza. The base is in the freezer - hm wholemeal - I'll make the tomato base with a tin to get the F&V, value mozzorella - 2 sausages sliced (rest will go into a cassoulet'ish in slow cooker) a sprinkle of frozen peppers, a sliced tomato and a sprinkle of grated cheddar.

That will do a dinner and a lunch for two. I'll make some oven wedgies and roasted onions to go with it.
  • My Dad is currently working the Harvest down in Kent and I've had some work on in that region so I've popped in to see him. I'm therefore getting supplied with two massive bags of white onions that he's got going spare at the mo (I dread to think what he's going to do with the rest of them, his garage is bursting!)

Anyone got any ideas for what I can do with them all?

    CERIDWEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you shocker!!!

What about ebay for slow cooker? loads there..sorry did linky for pressure cooker but theres loads of both!! what about freecycle or car boots too as theyre the sort of thing that people get and dont use...

    ..

Errr...cough...in my defence yer honour madam err....'twas in the days when I was merely good with money....ie before I got a 'puter and found M.S.E. ;) These days...I'm supergood with money - with these two resources to hand:D I've saved myself quite a bit of money now I can look up whats what on t'Internet and then pick the brains of you lot:D

I think you might approve of this week's spending for instance:
    - 1 trellis (cheapie one at £7 odd) to match t'others on my garden wall (all the better for supporting plantgrowing foods)
    - 1 trug (replacement for the one that is now allocated solely to haybox cookery purposes - having got my haybox cushions free from a friend!)
    - 1 useful reference book

No treats "because I deserve it" to quote yer advertisers!!! Unless you count the mini bottle of plonk I bought yesterday to go with dinner.....;)

    Hi timbo,

There is currently a challenge working with a similar amount (50p per person per day) so I'll add your thread to that one where you should get lots of support and help in achieving your goal.

  • Timbo, I think using up your stock cupboards it is do-able.

I have been doing this for the last 8 weeks or so, and it is getting down, but I have still bought some stuff each week, and lately too much again as I am getting too tired at end of term (teacher) to care almost :o

My son is off to his dads in a weeks time for a week and I have planned out a menu to include soups, and pasta dishes etc to use up stuff from cupboard for that week.

Last time he was away for a week I did very well at this, but after the last of 7 meals of some immitation beef strogganoff I felt a little ill lol

    Morning all

Back From Aldi.. Picking up some more store cupboard things for winter, It is really starting to chill out here... don't think the butternut squash are going to make it.. it felt distinctly frosty out there this morning (guess I could get out the fleece n tuck em up :p
Any way... my store shelves are looking good now... if a little strained :rotfl:
picked up some big tins of soup -agian if the power goes at least we can use hubbies multi fuel stove to heat em up -You can fill it with unleaded petrol ;) ... the soups are rather yummy loooking thinks like whte beans with veg and bacon etc... not bad for 85c / 65p Only for "emergency use" mind ..oh ok and if i get a lazy head on :o
Also got plenty of tuna, sweetcorn, some more plain flour, salt, oh and tins of peas n carrots -again for emergency use and a couple of cartons of long life milk...
Heck it sound like im expecting to be snowed in :rotfl:
Im doing jackets for lunch and then we are having a nice warming, stick to you ribs shepherds pie n veg for dinner :j ... Im going to make enough for 3 as hubby is golfing tomorrow so I will have a re-heat of that for lunch... going to keep some of the mince to make a savoury meat roll over the weekend ;)

When I was out in the garden earlier I was looking and have decided that I will fetch all my tomatoes off in the next couple of days and let them ripen in the windows. Then I can get all the plants ripped up and clear down the patio. Im sooooo tempted to see how many tomatoes I end up with and to have a play with the sterilizer jobby :p .. I have loads of onions, carrots, peppers, garlic so I might have a go at making some pasta sauces -as there is no way they will go in the freezer :o ..will see how many tomatoes I end up with and see if its worth it ;)

Today I am planning lots more knitting of rectangles for my blanky -and I really must get the draught excluders sorted..
    right enough waffle
hope you are all having a great day :D
