  • JTB i hate food shopping too at this time you seem to spend a fortune and still have nothing for tea............

We are having a big mr t delivery tommorrow but hardly amy of it is food

I need a bit of salad stuff next week and some meat from butchers(gammon bacon and sausages ) and thats me done

I am doing an indian buffet for 14 on boxing day but have most the stuff except some diced chicken in already.

    the menu is

Homemade Onion bhajis with yoghurt sauce
poppudums and pickles (homemade mango chutney and raita)
    lamb samosas

    chick pea and potato curry
    lamb mince curry
    chicken tikka masala
    chicken korma
lemon and ginger lentils with spinach

    naan bread
    pilau rice
    bombay potatoes

    I do have a question

the onion pickle in restaraunts how do i make it , its the one that just looks like chopped raw onions but is very mild

Having indian beer to wash it down with and a frozen yoghurt dessert

All cooking can be done in advance or in slowcooker so nice easy day considering

I love having family over and this year is extra special as my MIL is staying for a week and my auntie who has been ill is coming too

    Hi Shaz,

don't know if this is any help - but this is the one I use - it has chopped tomatoes and onions in it and is similar to the ones you get in Indians with the poppadum etc http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1384/fresh-tomato-chutney

  • My local Indian resteurant told us that it is just chopped onion and tom ketchup! We tried making it and it was just the same as theirs and very nice (and cheap) Might this be the one you are on about?
    Murphy was an optimist!!!
  • Thanks perrywinkle thats the one!!!

Morag i have seen the one you mean in asda in scotland (in a previous life)they call it spicy onions i like that too i might do both !!

JTB will send you some virtual leftovers if you like....

I just realised that the challenge is due to end soon. 50p a day has been a fairly tough one, but we're almost there. :T (At least most of me is still there, some weightloss has been occurrin'! :o ) I haven't posted for ages- been doing up the house for monzl's iminent appearance, but here we are in the middle of december and I wanted to wish you all a great Christmas/holiday type thing and a better New Year.

Hi there everyone! I havn;t posted for a while. don't often have much to post but I LOVE reading everything you have all been up to! On the indian food posts I always make my own poppadums. they aer SO much cheaper to buy and fry up. and they taste SO much better than the shop bought already made ones ;) and I also make a Yogurt and cucumber Raita. all you do is chop up cucumber really small and add to fresh yogurt. then add some mint sauce (to taste) I love mint sauce so I add loads ;) its great with mango chutney and onion and tomato and we love Lime Pickle too. (that's the hot one!) The Raita is well worth a try believe me!

Real life and work have really kept me away as of late but things are slowly winding down now thankfully. I have really missed posting but have tried to read and catch up on a regular basis.

CW, just wanted to say that you are in my thoughts daily and I do so wish you all the very best *huge warm hugs*

Weezle, Acetate and Fergus to be....I hope that all is going well with you all and that you dont somehow lose Acetate Monkey in the throws of all the decorating!! May end up with another bump in wall!!:rotfl:

Have around 20ish people coming here christmas eve and instead of doing a full blown meal like normal am going to do a selection of finger food and perhaps a slow cooker full of chili.....does that sound odd??:snow_grin

have darling MIL here with me this week and she is going to help me make mince pies tonight or tomorrow. Saw Nigellas show last night and sooooooooo want to make the pastry and mince pies that she did. Went to Asda tonight to look for her christmas cookbook but none there and now am desperate for the orange flavoured pastry and cranberry mincemeat. Can I be cheeky and ask if anyone has the book and could get me the recipe ...pwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese *begging*:o

Have all my hampers done for pressies now and am very glad,:xmastree: now just going to have a massive baking and cooking session this weekend to get all the food ready for christmas eve, going to a friends for christmas day and just chilling on boxing day so really looking forward to that. Think my DH is going to have his shed invaded by food over the next few days. :rotfl: great storage space especially when it is this cold outside!:snow_laug

hmmmm me thinks I have waffled on far too long. I sincerely do hope that everyone is doing well, happy and healthy. Huge hugs to all those that need or want them. Have been missing you all :xmassmile
