For future ref, I thought this Hugh F-W recipe for rillons of belly pork sounded nice: http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall/rillons-of-pork-belly-recipe-08-10-23_p_1.html
I'm still being as frugal as I can manage, I am also getting on with my OU stuff as best as I can and being worn out from my new job. I lurk on this thread often, but don't always have much useful to add.0 -
Evening all
Back again..spent last week and yesterday in hospital -but made a bid for freedom today :j ..just have to wait for them to get my back records from all the other hospitals so they can decide if they think surgery would be a good idea
....So I have had quite a few days of "free food" -but I have been seriously missing my fruit n veg -so much so I have had hubby bringing it in to me :rotfl:
Anyway, it means I have spent my time plotting my veggies for next year, budget planning and knitting:p ...it was either that -or climb the walls...
I made this one on saturday -I'm thinking they would make nice gifts for little girls, with bubble bath etc in.... Im thinking of trying to sell them along with the jewellery I make for the hospice back home:T -just not sure how to go about it yet !!!
I have caught up on some of what I have missed.... so hugs to all those in need;)
Im so looking forward to starting a new year with my "super frugal" head on... although I'm happy to say that I have now saved £2000 this year -just from housekeeping -and thats after getting the car seen to, hubbies golf club and the 3 weeks back in the UK with sis -So I'm chuffed to little mintballs :j -hoping for better next year
Anyway -enough waffle for now...hope everyone is well-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
hurro all...yes has been quiet but possibly because we are all contending with christmas run up and more to do than normal plus dark nights etc...certainly have lacked time and energy myself of late!
Well done for signing up shaz for the 4000 - I was going to try but my bills alone make that v. hard as by the time petrol and elec/gas gone thats almost half the buget!!
Hurro weezl good to see you on here! we've missed you although understand the need for some burrowing, esp with fergus on board! As for weight mram is a tall one so with all the extra decorating, keeping warm in winter and generally doing things bound to loose some. As for you growing thats good cos it means that fergie is growing as he should! Will report back weeziltes when I see the bump this weekend! much looking forward to a catch up with the weezles at the w/e as we've all been too busy of late!
hope all else ok...hello cw if youre looking in..hope funeral was a celebration of oh's life ...big hugs for you...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
I'm in for the "£4k" challenge next year, but I'm doing it more as an "£8k all in". Still got to do my final workings on the budget though.
I'm debating keeping a small mortgage for credit checking purposes and/or as a cheap way of borrow money in the future if needed (if I've "overpaid" -- which using the bulk of the life insurance to cover the bulk of the mortgage will be seen as -- then I can withdraw some/all of the overpayments if I need to). Want to chat to the Building Society about the viability of this before making the final decision though (I have more than enough life insurance still in place for the amount I'm thinking of, and actually intend to put a matching amount of capital into a savings account in case I change my mind later on). But at the moment I've not built any payments for that into my budget, so it's more likely to become "£9k all in" for meIn_Search_Of_Me wrote: »hello cw if youre looking in..hope funeral was a celebration of oh's life ...big hugs for you...
funeral went as well as these things can. the kids seemed to cope with it all, and my BIL and SIL both said that DH would have been impressed with it all -- so I guess they were happy with the arrangements as well.Cheryl0 -
Hugs for you cw. xxx
Hi everyone, I must admit I'm very jealous of you all getting these whoopsies, the ones near mine are not great at all.
I'll be moving out of my flat soon so there is no point anyway.
I'm going back to my mums and she doesn't have a big fridge freezer at all.
When I move back though, I'll be sticking to my budget so I can save as much as I can. When I move back into my place, I want to be able to afford to double glaze, a new fridge freezer and a comfy sofa.
Oh, I forgot... How happy am I? I manage to buy nearly all my Christmas pressies through the money I made from surveys this year and stuff I sold on ebay. I'll definitely be doing that next year.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
Guapa being nosey i know

Hi Shaz, I'm going back to my parents for about a year. I've been off work all year due to an accident at work, and I'm living on my savings now.
I decided to move back to my mums and rent my flat out as I'm about 3 months away from running out of savings and I'm no closer getting back to workGetting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -

My sick pay is too much for me to go on income support, but too little to pay my bills.
I'm waiting for the outcome of my DLA application.
I'm gutted, this would have been my first Christmas in my flat.
I will be keeping up my blog definitely, I'm so glad you enjoy it.
My mum... How can I put this nicely?
OK a story. One year when I was living at my mums, I made Christmas day food. Had a traditional Jamaican breakfast, and made turkey with all the trimmings, lamb, rice and peas, smoked salmon... A real spread.
After breakfast her and my sister went to church and left me cooking. I ended up eating alone as she went back to someone from churches house.
I was so hurt and upset, she didn't even ring to let me know, she just didn't turn up.
The next year, I told her I'm not cooking again so she must do it. All December I was wondering when she was going to buy the food, she kept telling me not to worry. I came home from work (I'm cabin crew) Christmas eve and there was a pop in the oven turkey joint from m&s, microwave in the bag veggies, frozen roasties and a ready made apple crumble and custard.
I moved out the next year.
I would like to think she's changed, but I'm not holding out much hope. I will definitely be cooking. I cannot afford to waste money like that. I'm still going to have to pay part of my mortgage as all the property developers round here have started letting as there is no sales market, so rent prices have fallen quite a bit.
I had a friend of a friend round yesterday to have a look. If she takes it, it would be great because there would be no estate agents fees etc. Fingers crossed eh?Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
