Merry Christmas to all the frugalistas!
It's been a busy few weeks for us so I must confess that it has been my most frugal or old style few weeks, however I've made some lovely gifts thanks to the Special Occassions board.
I'm planning on making my first ever batch of mince pies today!!! Please forgive me, as I am using frozen puff pastry- but I have justification. 1) OH only eats puff pastry and will not entertain the idea of shortcrust, even though I do think I am a good pastry maker.2) I have a block that has been languising in the freezer for months so might as well use it up.
I am planning on doing apple and mince pies- never had them but though it would be nommy- plus I still have a couple of apple from the Bramley tree in our garden to use up. Will let you know how successful they are.
Can't believe this challenge is nearly over.....:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
I have loved preparing for this Christmas so far with all the frugal hints and tips on the Old Style Forum. I have been so inspired I have made hampers for pretty much everyone and I have made something for most people too, I just hope everyone appreciates the time rather than the money spent as I don't appear to have spent that much at all!
I have been living with my housemates for nearly 4 months now and am moving again at the beginning of January. We have been cooking and eating together each night and the girl whose house it is buys the food in so I haven't had much chance to be frugal in my food eating but I have eaten very well! When I move I will be cooking once a week for my housies and be cooked for 2 nights and so I will be able to come back on board this inspiring thread. I'm excited to some of the recipes!
Hope all is well with allGod is good, all the time

it seems amazing that we are nearly at the end of this thread! where has the time gone?
i have loved hearing everyones news and the way everyone is so supportive of each other.
i haven't had a very frugal few weeks, despite trying to use things up from the freezer, everytime i visit a supermarket i seem to come out with a bagful!(i'm blaming christmas! the only good thing is that my actual shop this week won't be any more than a usual weekly(ish) shop!)
( and i'm having to go a few times a week, as my local dairy went out of business, and i don't have room in my freezer for extra milk! )
happy christmas to everyone.

Seems to have gone very quickly as others have said..although personally i have enjoyed having a go at matching the challenge, i don't get there very often..but i have dramatically cut my food bill which is a good thing and shows how proactive we can all be if we have a go.
Brill recipes, ideas and a new/old way of living and as ISOM is a fan of HFW..although i would never go as far as offal..or would i?
Wishing the Weezl family all the best and i will look forward to end results.

I feel sad that this is coming to an end and think a weezilite thread is needed. Not necc that Weezl has to keep posting on (being frugaliscious is time consuming and with a baby on the way there will be little time left!) but I've got very attached to our little band of weezilites and think it would be nice to have a home still but up to the Weezles..Having said that not done a scrap of cooking although will prob have pasta with butter and black pepper an garlic bread for supper - or weetabix!! Hope youre ok...girdlebusting recipe looked very naughty!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

I am with you all, I dont want to see this thread end at all! There have been times when I have just sat here or been doing something and a thought just pops in my head about something someone from here has said and makes me giggle or re-think what I am doing at the time. You have all become like a distant extended family and it will be so sad to lose our little group now. there have been so many times when I wish we had a chat facility to do live chat as I would have loved to get you all a lot better.
Well, back off to work now......btw.....if any one has any thoughts what I can do inexpensively to fill the vol au vants that I have here I would be very much appreciative....as the only suggestion dh can come up with is chicken and sweetcorn!
Have a great day every one....Huge hugs all around.

I'm definitely on board if this thread/idea carries on into the New Year, and I am sure there are a huge number of people on MSE who would really appreciate hints and tips on how to be more money saving in bringing up their children (as far as I understand it is a pretty expensive business!)God is good, all the time
