Thanks ISOM, I'm still finding it hard to walk more than a few yards without pain. This is not good as I live slap bang in the middle in the middle of a hill, and can't manage the gradients. I try and do a little each day but it's getting harder to find the encouragement to try.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

Hey All, had a virus both poota & hoota-wise so spent yesterday catching up.
I'm really gunna have to make more effort to emulate the Wonderful Weezl & Her Calculating Budget if I am to survive the dreaded post-crimbo stage this time around :o Unfortunately the vast majority of the annual bills come in Feb/March & now include MOT, car ins & road tax
But I'm hoping I might get a green tick for my homework with yesterday's cook-fest as posted on Store Cupboard Challenge. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=16345517&postcount=892
Would it help if I brought an apple for the teecha too Miss Weezl? Do teachers still do that--it's been quite a while since I was at school :rotfl:

    hello all ...

have a house full of snotty children! so thought i make a good healthy root veg soup (very frugal too!) ... mmmm smelt great ...then i added a little bit of cabbage ( well it was sitting there ... ) ...not so good! have added extra cumin, salt and pepper ... its ok, but can [strike]taste[/strike] smell the cabbage! (i don't mind, i like cabbage!) not sure what the children will think!

    xxx

well .... they all devoured it! so it can't have been that bad!
  • Oh bums, I had a salmon ready meal last week and enjoyed it sooo much I WANT another. Think I need support or counselling, can anyone help me please? :( Kentishmaid

Go to your nearest Chinese supermarket and buy some MSG in a bag, sprinkle it on your food and you'll start craving that instead... ;)
Or.... Go back and look at the ingredients of the ready meal and it is likely to put you off with all the additives but sure you can find a similar recipe you can make yourself that will taste just as good! :A
God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day
  • he he he is it MSG we crave from the ready meals then?! I always wondered but didn't dare find out what makes them so bad, apart from the fact that like chocolate, I like it and crave more when I have it, but feel healthier when I don't have it!! :rotfl:

Found/improvised a new recipe, but unfortunately and disappointingly despite it having the key ingredient - a turkey drumstick, as per lots of Weezl's recipes, it STILL doesn't come within her budget!!  Oh well, still cheap for the rest of us... ;)

Turkey Tangine (adapted from thte British Turkey Council website)

    Turkey leg 1.28p
    Tsp paprika 2p
    Tsp mixed herbs 2p
Chicken stock cube made up into stock 2p
Chopped fresh coriander 20p (or free from garden)
Tin of Tomatoes (33p for Mr T value – GULP!)
    Squirt of tomato puree 3p
    Courgette 30p
1/3 small jar black olives 22p
    4 dried apricots 15p
    Chopped onion 4p
    Handful cooked chickpeas (10p?)
Bung all in slow cooker 12 hours (I left it 24 by accident but it was done in 12)

Serves 6 if served with rice £2.81 or 47p per portion (not including rice)

I removed the meat from the bone and diced before cooking, but only because the full leg wouldn’t fit in my tiny slow cooker! :o Would get more meat off it if cooked on the bone then taken off and shredded. I used fresh coriander because it was reduced in Mr T but I’m sure dried would be ok too.

It was my first experiment with a turkey drumstick and I was very pleasantly suprised at how much meat there was on it.

Thank you for being so sensible........ . I usually do look at ingredients because I prefer not to eat MSG but I was tired and I think I enjoyed eating in a few mins without any thought of what or how to cook. I will go and check on the ingredients out of curiosity and then visit the whoopsie dept.
It is good to know that there is help to try to keep to 50p.:cheesy:
