Thanks Mooloo. My first two days have gone well and I've been told there my be vacancies in my dept for the next six months (which gives me plenty of time to get a permanent job!).

I often see whipping cream reduced for quick sale in my local supermarket so was really pleased when an american friend gave me this recipe:

    Whipping Cream Biscuits (i.e. scones!)

    1/2 pint whipping cream
185g/6.5oz self-raising flour (I'm converting from cups, obviously!

Combine ingredients and knead for 1 to 2 minutes.
Roll out 1/2 to 3/4 inch thickness.
    Cut with biscuit cutter.
    Place on ungreased baking tray.
    Bake at 450 F/ 230 C/ Gas mark 8 for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Hi Weezl,
Have only read this thread so far....first post :D.
I am loving the thread and have tried lots of the recipes....especially like the sardine pate and the lentil pate.

I am posting now as I am having trouble with you recipe for frozen yogurt and I'm wondering if you can help. It tastes lovely but when I freeze it it just becomes full of ice crystals which make it a bit inedible....should I be doing something else? I have tried giving it a few extra whisks as it freezes but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Also it freezes absolutely solid so can't be served unless I partially defrost it.

Any suggestions Weezl or anyone else?

Hi again Weezl, cw18, In search of Me and everyone else :D....just an update on my frozen yogurt problem...picked up a 2nd hand ice cream maker today for £6 :D:D:D and have some yogurt in the making as we speak. Will try the frozen yogurt recipe again tomorrow...tragically excited about it:p.

    Bye for now all,
    Tess

I did better than you with the ice cream maker - I picked mine up for baksheesh at the dump a few weeks ago :D Tried it for the first time today, and made some frozen yogurt as I had loads which needed using up. I also needed to use up some lemon curd, so I mixed the two together and it's come out fine. It freezes quite hard though so I've had to take it out about 20 minutes or so before eating to be able to get any out of the container :rotfl:

Just a few questions on ice cream makers though. Mine didn't come with a book so I'm only guessing on how to use it. It has two switches - one for mixing and one for freezing. I put the stuff in and mixed it all, then switched on the freezing and let it carry on mixing and freezing together.

    1. Is this how it works?

    2. If so, how long should it be done for? I did it for well over half an hour (I think I put too much mixture in because it swelled and started to come out above the mixing bit :rotfl:). I then switched off the mixing and left it to freeze, but I think that was a mistake as it started to freeze solid in the machine.

    3. Presumably the mixing and freezing are done together, but not the freezing on its own?
  • Just a mum have to tried googling the make and model as likely you can find instructions? R the freezing I have one that you freeze the bowl in the freezer and basically you put the mix in and keep mixing until it freezes and then place in a container in the freezer. It is more solid than shop bought as no additives etc but maybe putting something like glucose syrus would soften it a bit? I just take mine out early to soften it.
    HTH?

  • Total disaster with the yogurt maker. I'm either doing it wrong or I've bought a duff ice cream maker. Said on box it should be ready to serve in 20 mins but after hour and half still not ready!

  • otter did you have to freeze the bowl before churning? Just a thought. If its duff can you get a replacement under warranty?

  • A quick post to say hi and thank you.

I came across this thread by accident and have just spent hours reading all 57 pages. You're an inspirational bunch.

I shall take up the challenge to eat well and save money (shares in Mr T will plummet when this news hits the stock exchange!).

    Thank you all.
