oo let us know how you get on Tess! Hugs cw if youre looking in cw and hurro tiredy weezl...plus hello C, Shaz and the oldies who havent been seen a while!

    Hiya ISOM

One "oldie" reporting in here - :D - still busy chuntering away on getting myself sorted with that there foodgrowing - eating a salad from out back most nights now from my plants so far and looking to get this thing up and running properly for next "stint".

Hiya Weezl - got that one right about not wanting to use slug pellets - I've got some packets of copper banding stuff that I need to fix round the outside of my readymade raised beds - being that they are made of plastic <cough>:o - rather than wood - I wont be able to just nail the copper on - so all ideas welcome from anyone as to how to attach them. Am also thinking of scattering used coffee grounds round the outside of them - as I gather slugs hate this as well.

I'd be tempted to drill holes through the copper strips and the plastic tubs, then use bolts

I have heard that places like starbucks will keep coffee grounds for you rather than landfill we don't have one so not tried it out

    Coffeee ground also compostable

have a kind of shopping day off to the indian grocer for a few spices and bits

  • True about Starbucks- I work there so should know. Just ask your local one (presuming you have a local one, of course). Have to admit that I tried the coffee grounds as a slug repellant but with limited success this year. Did seem to enrich the soil though so worth a go, and costs you nowt.

Anyone seen the 'Free Food Fayre' on BBC news this morning? Here's the story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/7756086.stm. Interesting stuff.

  • otter did you have to freeze the bowl before churning? Just a thought. If its duff can you get a replacement under warranty?

    Hi In Search of Me,
Thanks, I did freeze it but only for 30 hours and someone else has suggested to me that on first use it may need freezing for 48-72 hours so will try again freezing for longer.
I bought it second hand from a woman on ebay (it was an unwanted gift which she had never used) who has offered a refund if I can't get it going which is great. I'd rather get it going if I can though.
    Thanks again,
    Bye for now,
    Tess

    Hi all!!
I haven't posted in here for ages, but hope everyone is well. I've not had the best couple of months and was a bit down, but here I am trying to keep my spirits up!

Since this month I am now living on £35 a month after all the bills have gone out. Luckily because of my gran teachings and here I have a little stock of the basics, and just need to buy fruit and veg and any meat that has been reduced. I can't take full advantage though as my fridge freezer broke down while I was in hospital. My savings are running out so I'm having to put my flat up for rent and go and live with my mum.
I'm trying to eat as healthily as I can. I can't do much exercise so I can only keep my weight down that way.
I've been taking pics of my evening meal to make it like a little adventure, so I started a blog yesterday that I will hopefully keep it up to keep my spirits up. Feel free to come and say hello!

Yep it is one of the Slimming world recipes.Basically you boil potatoes and mash them. Grease a tray and flatten mash, bake in oven until top is slightly crispy (you can use instant mash as well) add tomato base and topping of choice. It is so filling you can hardly move after.

Yum, that sounds so interesting. I'll have to try that. I bought some value mash from Tesco and it isn't very nice... Then again I didn't make it to the pack instructions. :rotfl:I used water instead of milk. I think it definitely needs milk to give it flavour.

I have just checked on mysupermarket.com and it appears that Sainsburys are also selling theres half price - a Bernard Matthews x large basted turkey (10.2kg) is reduced from £50 to £25, large (8.2kg) reduced from £40 to £20,and medium (6.2kg) is reduced from £30 to £15. I have never ever seen a frozen turkey for sale at £50 before!! Has anyone else? Or do you think the Supermarkets are engaging in a bit of 'smoke and mirrors' trickery?

It would appear that Asda, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsburys are all selling these turkeys for exactly the same price according to mysupermarket.com, so the hunt is on the find them cheaper!!

I've noticed that they all the same on quite a lot of things at the moment. Me thinks some price fixing is going on!
