If you own land, and decide that as a business that you would like to charge for parking on that land. And that you display signs that are worded correctly, then why shouldn't you be able to set the rules for anyone using that service? Otherwise what's the point in owning the business in the first place?

Land owners are just private citizens and they cannot impose "fines" on other private citizens. It's as simple as that.

Although I quoted that document from the island of Jersey, the same laws apply to mainland Britain.

They are legally allowed to clamp the vehicles, and then charge for release. It seems that the supermarkets don't want to go down the road of clamping, so instead the allow the PPC's to invoice the offender.

If you don't want to abide by the land owners rules, then don't use their service.

I hope that changes soon in England. Private clamping in Scotland is banned because it's regarded as theft and extortion. This is because the clamper is depriving the driver the use of their vehicle.

Most supermarkets, in my experience, do not charge for parking.
Therefore the PPCs cannot send you an invoice to cover a loss which does not and cannot exist.

I have signed up to a scheme that allows me to issue them, I've issued 9 so far, 4 were challenged, and 1 even went to court.
All 9 were paid, the one that went to court cost the offender over 300 quid in the end.
It all depends on the wording on the warning sign.

The moral of the story is, If you don't behave as you should then don't be upset at the consequences.

    Simple innit???? :D:D:D

Is this organised through your local council? Do they issue a licence or permit to you to allow you to do this?

What is the wording you have to have on your sign?

There are some dodgy claming companies about, but if you run a car park as a business, and someone parks there without paying, then it is the same as theft. If they stopped clamping then anyone with a car park as a business would go bust because parking fees would jut be ignored.

And should anyone get an invoice they can ignore it.
So that is a waste of time for all concerned.

If they stopped clamping it would be just like Scotland where car parks exist and have not gone out of business, so your comment is rubbish:D

Out of town supermarkets don't tend to charge for parking, because they don't tend to have a problem with people using their car park to go to other shops. But most supermarkets in towns do charge for this reason.

As far as I know the ones who don't charge, don't fine either. They just put a note on your car.

But they will if people like you tell everyone that they can just ignore the fines for not displaying a ticket.

Try and look at the whole picture from a business point of view rather than just the view of someone who is trying to beat the system.

Have a read of some of the parking threads on here.
You will see that many out of town car parks do try and invoice people who park.
