Parking ticket in Asda car park - Is this legal, can they take me to court?

By definition, I considered I was entitled to park in one of these bays!!!
I think you know full well that these are intended for people with small children who need extra room - perhaps to deal with car seats etc.
Legally I think it would be difficult for someone to prosecute you unless there is a very clear definition somewhere.
Personally I think it's less of a "moral crime" as they are a "nice to have" for people with kids as opposed to a necessity.0 -
Thats my thing, the disable passenger using the bays. The disabled passenger is not even driving the car. Thats is also why supermarkets have pickup and drop off points. You should drop off the passenger and park the car in a normal parking bay. Then when you have finished go to you car and then collect the passenger.
I did not suggest at all that a disabled person should not go out. I am in full agreement that disable people should use the disable facilities that are provided for disabled people and they should get out as much as anyone else. Just that non disabled ( drivers ) people should not use the facilites that are provided for the use of disabled people.
What do you mean if now one is allowed to drive them. Who said no one was allowed to drive them?0 -

Yup, agree, but if extra space is needed to get children and associated equipment out of a car, what about the extra space needed to get an 85 year old Mother out of a car.
If you suggest I should have used the drop-off points, then I'm going to suggest that these drop-off points can also be used by Mothers & small children!!!:pIt has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!0 -

There are countless scenarios were it would not be appropriate to leave a person with a disability alone and unassisted whilst the driver of the vehicle goes off to park somewhere else. You do not have to be a car driver to have blue badge.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

mikemoate, does that mean, as a driver you can get a blue badge if you ferry around a disabled passenger? I was not aware of this.
Grumpy, you said it in your earlier post, use the parent and child space.....:rotfl:0 -

Well firstly not everywhere have pickup and drop off points.
Also some disabled people cannot be left alone.
My mother-in-law has had 3 falls.
She uses a frame but really needs someone with her, so driver cannot go off and leave her. What do you mean if now one is allowed to drive them. Who said no one was allowed to drive them?
My father-in-law can't leave her unattended.
So under your scheme, someone who need "attendance" cannot go out unless they have a driver AND a carer.
They do not have 2 people availble so how do you suggest they go out? bearing in mind that they need to keep independent and get as much exercise as possible.0 -

I can see your point.
If she has severe difficulties she should be able to apply for a blue badge.
Otherwise I'm afraid you just have to stuggle along with obeise people or people with something large in the card (I stuggle to get the dry cleaning out sometimes).
If necessary park in the middle of the aise, help her out then move the car in.
I know some people are impatient but if they see you have an 85 year old with you then MOST people will wait patiently,0 -

I don't think you can, but you can use the blue badge of the passenger whilst they are in the car of you are picking them up.
BTW - blue badge holders can get across the servern bridge for free.
I can't justify this myself as it's not as though walking is a practical option for any of us.0 -

So you are suggesting mothers drop their children at the drop off points and leave them there while they go and park their car?!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -

I don't agree with passengers having badges getting the driver to park in a disabled bay. I think that it should only be the driver that is allowed to park there only if they have the disabled badge.
Parent and baby spaces - grrrrr, I see so many people who have a car seat in their car but no child, and they still park in these spaces !!!
Get real!!
So people who are severley disabled and can't drive Or are too young to drive and require another person to drive for them shouldn't be allowed to use a disabled bay??0
