I took my Mother to our local Sainsbury's and drove round-and-round looking for a space, eventually parking in a Mother & Child space (there were loads of these empty spaces).

My Mother, being 85 and of the 'old school' said "you can't park there", then I pointed-out to her that she was my Mother and I was her child, albeit, she was 85 & I was 54!!

By definition, I considered I was entitled to park in one of these bays!!!;)

The spaces are for parent and child (or carer/guardian whatever). You are an adult, not a child, so should not have used the space.

Just seen this on another site, a note for putting on ignorant b*stards cars:D

You are parked in a space clearly designated for disabled persons. Please circle the statement which best describes your handicap :
    1 - I don't read good.

    2 - I suffer from terminal laziness.

3 - I am a moron in all areas of my life.

4 - My inner child was bugging me for ice cream.

5 - My shoes are too expensive to walk in.

6 - Wheelchair symbol? I thought it was a rocking chair!

7 - My religion forbids acts of common courtesy.

8 - I ignore OTHER laws, why not this one?

9 -I AM disabled... by a painfully swollen ego.

If such a note had been left on my car by a disabled person who is obviously fit enough stand and write a note or walk back to their car to get a pen and paper and then walk back to my car and lean over the bonnet of my car and lift my wiper after I had obtained permission to take into the shops either one of my sisters with a full leg cast, who had not been issued with a wheelchair just a frame and crutches on which they were not stable over the 4 months they were in plaster I would leave an equally rude note on your car. I wouldn't however call you a b'stard as I would never stoop that low.

Just because you have have persuaded the authorities that you have a permanent disability, which obviously includes rudeness, intolerance, power of clairvoyance etc. You do not have the right to touch my vehicle and leave offensive notes. I have a geniune reason for parking in this bay.

Just like I do not ask you to explain the rationale behind the issue of your blue badge I do not need to explain why I needed to use this space on this ocassion.

Unlike a blue badge holder I sought permission from the store on who's land these spaces are and justified my need. Their permission is all I need. I do not require your endorsement.

It is so nice that blue badged disabled people understand that there are times when every single person could have a temporary disability and the impact it can have on one's life. The disability may last days, weeks or months but you obviously seem to be of the opinion that all persons suffering a disability, if temporary should stay at home for the duration.

Once again thank you for your understanding and I hope you feel good about yourself.

the disabled bays are for disabled badge holders only and most people do not have to persuad authroties that they are disabled they are given one through the proper channels and just because you have a leg in plaster does not entitle you to park in them end of

*sigh* I hope other board users realised that my previous post was written in fun.

If you had to deal with permanent disability and deal with this kind of thing day in day out perhaps you'd have seen the funny side.

If you have a temporary disability thrn the store will give you something to put in the car window to say as much.

Yes you do have to persuade the authorities. You get a form from your local council which you complete. If in receipt of certain benefit, which again you have to persuade a different authority you entitled to as they don't just accept your word, you automatically get. Else you need to take to GP to have him to sign. Again you may need to convince GP of your need.

I also don't see why blue badges are not issued on a temporary basis to persons. Not everyone has a permanent disability but without being able to use a disabled space would not be able to go out to do simple things like supermarket shopping.

Also remember I was referring to spaces on private land belonging to the shop, not the public highway or even council owned car parks. Any fine issued on private land is a civil matter. It's not a criminal matter although I think some people would like to think it is.

I find your attitude heart warming that you have so much compassion for people in need. I would not be as unkind as you to wish you a severely broken leg, to have a family to look after, to be stuck indoors for months on end, to be unable to move about your own home without help, to be confined to one floor of your house unless someone was with you, to have a prolonged recovery with a mishapened knee joint, to have constant pain, a permanent limp and to live in world full of shelfish ignoramous.

    Perhaps I do!

The stores told me when I rang before hand to see if it was possible to speak to the car park attendant as it was patrolled by a private company. They said to tell them I had spoken with person X. The actually warned me not to just leave a note as the private companies ignore them even if on their headed paper.

I guessed your post was in jest but some people will use it not in jest. If I had such a note I would respond.

The first time I took my first sister who broke her leg to Tesco I just parked a long way away in the car park where I thought no one would park next to me so she could shuffle out of the car. I then walked to the store to collect a wheelchair and back to collect her. What I haddened bargained on was
    a) my own back giving out on me while pushing the wheelchair
    b) everybody deciding to park in the remote corner of the car park so I couldn't open the door wide enough for her to get in. I had to leave her in the chair in the car park, reverse my car out, help her in the car, park back in the space, take the chair back to the shop, come back to take her home.

I didn't park in the space because it was near to the store, I parked there because of the extra width and the location of the wheelchairs.

I didn't break any laws. No police officer could arrest me.

It would be a good idea to have some kind of badge for temporary disability. But as you have said these are temporary disabilities. A pain in the bum certainly, but not permanent.
The problems encountered by your family member is what I have had to deal with every day for the past 3 and a half years. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even for a day.:)
