mikemoate, does that mean, as a driver you can get a blue badge if you ferry around a disabled passenger? I was not aware of this.

Grumpy, you said it in your earlier post, use the parent and child space.....:rotfl:

Hi doingwhatican. Well no a none disabled driver can't get a badge, although I think there may still be cases were, for example, a Leonard Cheshire Home may get a generic badge for use in a vehicle which transports people with a dsiability. However as I said you don't have to be car driver to get a badge. Basically anybody with a disability who meets the criteria can apply for and get a badge and they should then carry this with them for use in any vehicle in which they are transported. Hence a family may take it in turns to take granny who is say in a wheelchair and a little confused, hence shouldn't be left alone, and the same badge (her personal badge) is used.

for clarification the badge is issued to a particular individual not a particular vehicle.

My blue badge has my photo on the reverse but it has never been checked ( I have had it about 2 years). Its the opposite side that gets displayed so I guess this is why its easy for some to abuse the system.

Thats my thing, the disable passenger using the bays. The disabled passenger is not even driving the car. Thats is also why supermarkets have pickup and drop off points. You should drop off the passenger and park the car in a normal parking bay. Then when you have finished go to you car and then collect the passenger.

I did not suggest at all that a disabled person should not go out. I am in full agreement that disable people should use the disable facilities that are provided for disabled people and they should get out as much as anyone else. Just that non disabled ( drivers ) people should not use the facilites that are provided for the use of disabled people.

What do you mean if now one is allowed to drive them. Who said no one was allowed to drive them?

I really think you should engage your brain before you type....are you seriously suggesting that someone should drop a severly mentally and physically disabled person off at a drop off point...and then go and park the car in a normal parking space....

So you are suggesting mothers drop their children at the drop off points and leave them there while they go and park their car?!

    No .... it was a tongue-in-cheek statement!!!:p :p
BTW - blue badge holders can get across the servern bridge for free.

.... and did you know that if you go through the 'Pay Cash' tolls and chuck the money in the bins, most people pull away when the barrier goes up, and then a second or so later any change drops into the 'cup', so if you 'chuck-in' the right money and dip-in to the 'cup' you could get a couple of quid back;) :D . If you're observant you'll see the attendants walking around these 'Pay Cash' tolls diping-in to the cups and taking the money out!!!!

and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

I do agree with the disabled parking bays - but only if used by a driver that is disabled. I don't agree with passengers having badges getting the driver to park in a disabled bay. I think that it should only be the driver that is allowed to park there only if they have the disabled badge.
Parent and baby spaces - grrrrr, I see so many people who have a car seat in their car but no child, and they still park in these spaces !!!

OMG - You really need to learn about disabilities before you start spouting off all this rubbish....

What do you suggest we should do with disabled passengers then....???

    Leave them at home ?
Chuck them out the car before parking in a normal space ?

Hey - maybe we should just give them all a lethal injection as soon as it
become apparent that they have a disability.......

Go on - do tell me what the disabled passenger should do if in your REAL world where only the disabled driver were to recieve a blue badge ????????

Mikemoate, thanks for pointing out how a badge is allocated.
LOL, I really have opened up a can of worms. I suppose that if you look after a severly mentally and physically disabled person you than have a specially equipped vehicle to take them out in? yes?
I can fully understand the act of not leaving someone at a drop off point who shouldn't be left alone. The same goes for leaving children at a drop off point - you just wouldn't do it.
Billie19 Excuse me for spouting rubbish.........it's just my opinion.

If you have a Physically/mentally disabled person you do not necessarily need a specially equipped vehicle, maybe just a larger type (ie) Zafira.

Assuming they can be left alone, what do they do? They can't just stand around waiting if they're disabled, and the benches provided usually aren't comfortable or of the right height to be of any use!

If you're gonna say "they're in a wheelchair!" then don't bother. You don't have to be in a wheelchair to be disabled.

And for the ones who are in a wheelchair, the drop-off bays aren't an apporpriate place to help the disabled person into their wheelchair. You won't be able to open the doors enough, you'll be inconveniencing the other disabled people waiting etc.

EDIT: thought of another point. Some (most?) supermarkets offer loans of electric scooters. So, the driver would need to stop in the drop off bit and risk getting a ticket, to go into the store, fetch the scooter, help the disabled person into it, leave them and find a space.

Unfortunately it's an opinion that seems to be based on little experience of the real problems.

This is an emotive issue because people experience REAL difficulty and pain in their daily lives.

Don't let it put you off contributing, but be aware of the limitations of your own experiences as in this area I'm afraid they are sadly lacking.

Disabled people are not laughing because they have all these "privileges".
These are an essential for some people just to get out of the house.
They would very gladly swap places with you and walk miles in the rain if they could.

Just seen this on another site, a note for putting on ignorant b*stards cars:D

You are parked in a space clearly designated for disabled persons. Please circle the statement which best describes your handicap :
    1 - I don't read good.

    2 - I suffer from terminal laziness.

3 - I am a moron in all areas of my life.

4 - My inner child was bugging me for ice cream.

5 - My shoes are too expensive to walk in.

6 - Wheelchair symbol? I thought it was a rocking chair!

7 - My religion forbids acts of common courtesy.

8 - I ignore OTHER laws, why not this one?

9 -I AM disabled... by a painfully swollen ego.
